Peaks and Pints Pilot Program: Peanut Butter Beer Flight

Peanut butter helps, at least for Peaks & Pints. One of the world’s most versatile and delicious ingredients, peanut butter isn’t just something to slap between two slices of white bread, its satisfying flavor reaches into your soul. Like a dog working through a spoonful of peanut butter, it sticks. Peanut Butter sticks to stress, disappointment, failure, and confusion and can eliminate them much like it can remove crayon off wallpaper or the hiccups. In times like these, we’re thankful for peanut butter, including its presence in craft beer. The Peaks & Pints bush plane landed on North 26th Street

Peaks and Pints Pilot Program: Prairie Beers On The Fly

After sharing their different and experimental variations of saisons working as gypsy brewers, brothers Chase and Colin Healey decided it was time to have a brewery of their own. They raised more than $20,000 on Kickstarter with the help of fans and formed Prairie Artisan Ales in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2012. Chase Healey grabbed the brewhouse while his brother is the talent behind the fun, funky branding, and logo design. Together, they brought a unique perspective to brewing — especially big bold barrel aged stouts and super crisp and funky farmhouse ales. Today, Peaks & Pints presents a to-go flight of

Founded by brewers Jack Harris and Chris Nemlowill, the two combined their brewing expertise from previous Oregon coast gigs at Bill’s Tavern and Astoria Brewing Company to open Fort George Brewery in March 2007. Harris and Nemlowill drove their first 8.5-barrel brewhouse — nicknamed “Sweet Virginia” — from the East Coast and through a tornado to open a small pub in the Fort George Building on Duane Street in Astoria, Oregon. In 2009, they bought almost the entire city block, including the Lovell Building, where they installed a 20-barrel commercial brewhouse — “Little Miss Texas” — followed by a neighboring

Contained in the genetic record of hops and cannabis White Lab Coats discovered that before 25 million years ago, there was only marijuana. And hops (aka humulus) evolved out of marijuana to chase moist creek beds, whereas cannabis remained perfectly content to stay in the dry savannahs. Cannabis and humulus (hops) are two types of the relatively small family of Cannabaceae. In blunt terms, cannabis and hops are cousins, both sharing a key ingredient called terpenes, which are mysterious and numerous. Hops tend to have a large amount of myrcene (a type of terpene) and varying amounts of other terpenes

Peaks and Pints Pilot Program: Wine Barrels On The Fly

Europeans have been putting beer in wooden vessels for hundreds of years. Before industrialization, beer was fermented in wood, stored, and shipped in wood, and poured directly from wood. Beer spoiled often. Life sucked. By the mid-20th century, most breweries had happily traded their temperamental wooden barrels for the reliability and convenience of metal tanks. Then, breweries realized how kind wood can be to beer that’s treated properly. Sure, it’s expensive, and predicting when a batch will be ready is tricky. But results are rarely disappointing — such as aging beer in wine barrels. Wine barrels induce fruit flavors and

American Craft Beer Week, the annual springtime salute to small and independent craft breweries, wraps up today. This year’s rallying cry was “Turn your beer world upside down” — a nod to the freewheeling spirit that craft breweries are known for. “The pioneering craft breweries turned the beer world upside down. They believed that beer drinkers were ready to branch out from industrial lagers and explore deeper, bolder flavors,” said Ann Obenchain, Brewers Association marketing and communications director in a news release. “This revolutionary ethos persists. It’s part of the craft brewing community’s DNA. And this year’s American Craft Beer

Cider is truly a product from the terroir of Brittany, the best weather and soil for apple production. Brittany farms plant cider apples which are a special variety to make cider. Strumke has been a nomad. Whether in Stratford, Connecticut at Two Roads Brewing or Baltimore, Maryland at Of Love and Regret, Stillwater functioned as more of a living organism than a brewery, led by Strumke’s wanderlust to go wherever the road, beer or art takes him. Across the city, though, several of these old buildings have experienced a revitalization where they’ve been repurposed for other uses — born again, including a 1909 church on the corner of Northwest Broadway and 24th, a tall, craftsman-era chapel made of Pacific Northwestern fir and cedar that now is a church of fermentation.
