Ecliptic Brewing 5 Beers For 5 Years: Breakside Brewery

Your parents’ anniversary got NOTHIN’ on Ecliptic Brewing Co.’s fifth anniversary. You could celebrate with the ‘rents with a nice meal and a card, OR you could celebrate five years of space balls-out craft beer with the Portland brewery and their neighbors, Breakside Brewery, Thursday, July 18, at Peaks and Pints craft beer bar, bottle shop and restaurant in Tacoma’s Proctor District.

Ecliptic Brewing picked Peaks and Pints to showcase their newest Cosmic Collaboration series, “5 Beers for 5 Years,” in which the Portland brewery collaborates with five other esteemed breweries to brew five celestial concoctions, and then taking each collaboration on separate tours supported by tapped craft beer from both breweries. Peaks and Pints hosted the first two collaborations — Brooklyn Brewery in April and Firestone Walker in May. We’re opening the pod bay door again for Ecliptic’s third Cosmic Collaborator, Breakside Brewery, July 18.

Ecliptic Brewing owner and brewmaster, John Harris, worked with Breakside’s brewmaster, Ben Edmunds, to create the Nectarine Sour Ale (8.2%) brewed with pale and Munich malts, wheat and oats, but what provides its unique, fruity flavor — pureed and fresh nectarines. A touch of coriander and Ecliptic’s house Lactobacillus strain add to the classic sour ale flavor profile.

“Ben and I are really stoked to do our first collab,” says Harris in a media release. “We jumped right on the sour style, and Ben suggested nectarines. It’s great to have such awesome friends in the craft beer industry.”

Peaks and Pints will tap the Ecliptic/Breakside collaboration Nectarine Sour Ale, as well as the latest craft beer from both breweries, including Ecliptic’s new Vega #3 IPA and Breakside’s new lagers.

What should you give Ecliptic for their fifth anniversary?

Peaks and Pints isn’t hip to the proper anniversary gift etiquette. We believe you should give paprika on fifth anniversaries. No, wait! It’s throw pillows? Particleboard? Skydiving lessons?

Anyway, Thursday, July 18, let’s aim the telescope at two iconic brewmasters’ craft, drink the Nectarine Sour Ale and other beers from the two breweries and toast Ecliptic’s fifth orbit around the sun and gift them ELO’s 1977 Out of the Blue album.

Perfect!
