TACOMA PREFUNK TUESDAY, FEB. 6 2018: 10 Barrel Dark Queen and Django Reinhardt

PREFUNK: Jose Ruiz, a 10 Barrel Brewing brewer, created the 10 Barrel Dark Queen recipe, a take on a traditional German dunkel that showcases malt depth achieved by decoction brewing. Flavors of toasty bread crumbs and soft malt sweetness surrender to a subdued chocolate aftertaste that is light and refreshing. The 4.5 percent dunkel is one of five 10 Barrel beers on tap at Peaks and Pints today with a special 5 p.m. 10BArrelparty tonight featuring a snowboard giveaway.

1 AND 6:15 P.M. DJANGO: Django Reinhardt broke new ground in the 1930s. The Romani guitarist had just three fingers (his chording hand was injured in a fire), but he played like he had six. Filmmaker Étienne Comar shows how Django’s “hot jazz” got France swinging, even as the Nazis advanced and minorities like him were doomed to the concentration camps. The movie Django recreates this era and Django’s audacious escape out of Paris. It screens at The Grand Cinema.

5-8 P.M. MATCHLESS BREWING: In 2016, award-winning brewmaster Patrick Jansen — who helped lead Three Magnets Brewing Co. to prominence with the Helsing Junction Farmhouse Saison, Great American Beer Festival bronze medalist Old Skook In The Woods barleywine, Brotherhood Brown ale and many more craft beers — partnered with Grant Bolt, a bar manager at Three Magnets, as well as founder of WortWorks Soda Co., all natural soda sweetened by grain extract to open Matchless Brewing Company close to the Thurston County Airport in Tumwater. Tonight, Matchless will hang at Brewers Row in North Tacoma, pouring their Hazy IPA, Special Dark and Kentucky Common.
