Peaks & Pints Great Notion 10th Anniversary Party May 7
Great Notion Brewing turns 10, which in hazy IPA years is approximately 47 cosmic lifetimes, three fruit purée eras, and one very sticky revolution. Peaks & Pints celebrates the Portland brewery’s decade of keeping beer fun with a Great Notion 10th anniversary party Thursday, May 7, pouring tribute to the brewery that helped push the Pacific Northwest into the bright orange fog of modern haze, culinary sours, pastry stouts, barrel-aged beasts, and beers that behave less like beverages and more like animated flavor goblins with excellent label art.
Great Notion launched in Portland in 2016, founded by Paul Reiter, James Dugan, and Andy Miller — three friends and neighbors who didn’t just follow the IPA evolution — they smeared it with mango, spun it through vanilla, and handed it back glowing. From their original Northwest Alberta Street brewpub, they helped drag the region into the juicy, opaque, fruit-forward era, a shift that now feels inevitable but at the time felt like someone had quietly replaced your beer with a dream.
They didn’t just make hazy IPA popular; they normalized the idea that beer could taste like blueberry muffin, pancake syrup, tropical static, breakfast-table witchcraft — and still be taken seriously. Ripe has been there since the beginning, a kind of soft, citrus-lit cornerstone that went on to earn national praise and quietly anchor the chaos.
The official 10th Anniversary blowout lands Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Great Notion’s Northwest 28th location in Portland — a full-scale celebration with 40-plus beers, barrel-aged and vintage pours, limited anniversary releases, throwbacks, music, food, and the kind of joyful excess that only a decade of doing exactly what you want can produce.
Which makes May 7 in Tacoma something else entirely — the prelude, the gathering point, the moment before the road trip. Peaks & Pints’ 5-8 p.m. celebration becomes the South Sound’s version of a quiet ignition, where you raise a glass not just to what Great Notion has been, but to the strange, flavorful, slightly unhinged path it helped carve.
Come toast the weird. Come honor the juice. Come remember when IPA went cloudy and everyone, just for a minute, agreed that maybe this was the better way.
