In its first year, Lucky Envelope Brewing won a medal at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival (GABF), which is now joined by others on their medal wall. The brewery’s name originates from a Chinese tradition of giving out red envelopes filled with paper money as a gesture of good fortune. Red is meant to ward off evil spirits and bring good health, while the money inside is supposed to bring prosperity. Owners Barry Chan and Ray Kwan are Chinese Americans who embraced a culturally inspired philosophy to creating beer — from their Pandan Almond Milk Stout brewed with real pandan leaves to a Gotlandsdricka beer based on Swedish homebrew made with juniper boughs and smoked malts to a 5,000-year-old Mijiaya Historic Chinese Beer recipe complete with Job’s tears, barley, millet, lily flowers, and yam. Yesterday, Chan dropped by Peaks & Pints’ Event Room to chat with the Grit & Grain Podcast about Asian American and Pacific Islander Month and tea-infused beers, which will be released on Friday, June 6. In celebration, Peaks & Pints presents an all-day flight of Lucky Envelope beer — a flight called Peaks & Pints Lucky Envelope Brewing Flight.

Lucky Envelope Lost Crop: Fonio Grisette
4.2% ABV
Lucky Envelope’s light and effervescent grisette highlights fonio, a nutty and floral ancient West African grain that has been cultivated for thousands of years. Despite its nutritional value and climate-friendly agronomics, fonio has long been overlooked in global markets and is often considered a “lost crop.”
Lucky Envelope 10th Anniversary X 10° Pilsner
4.3% ABV
Lucky Envelope’s 10th anniversary pilsner is a crisp and refreshing West Coast-style pilsner, crafted with Saphir, Krush, and Mosaic hops for a classic floral spice profile with bright citrus and tropical notes.
Lucky Envelope Citra Hazy IPA
6.4% ABV
Brewed with brewer-selected Citra hops from Leo Gasseling & Sons Farm in Yakima, and further enhanced with Citra Incognito, Mosaic, and Cashmere hops, Citra Hazy IPA offers a vibrant citrus profile with layers of orange zest, pit, and pulp, complemented by subtle hints of peach and mango.
Lucky Envelope 10th Anniversary West Coast IPA
7.1% ABV
Their 10th Anniversary West Coast IPA is brewed with Krush, Citra, and Simcoe hops. Bursting with citrus, pine, and tropical fruit aromas, it delivers a crisp bitterness and a clean, dry finish.
Lucky Envelope Beardless Brewer Red Ale
5.5% ABV
Originally brewed in 2018, Beardless Brewer Red Ale made a comeback last month as part of Lucky Envelope’s 10th Anniversary celebrations. The malt-forward, Irish-style red ale is brewed with English malts, resulting in hints of sweet caramel, toasted white bread, and a light cocoa powder finish.
