THURSDAY PREFUNK: Craft beer before Garrison Keillor and Hotcabi

Share

THURSDAY, APRIL 13 2017: South Sound events + craft beer …

Broadway Center + Peaks and Pints = Garrison Keillor and Sumerian Brewing

Rhythm & Rye + Fish Tale Brewpub = Hotcabi and Hatchery Creek India Pale Lager

TACOMA

The fans of Garrison Keillor are a fierce bunch whose radios have for years been tuned religiously on Saturday nights to public radio’s resurrected “A Prairie Home Companion.” And it’s no wonder: A deadpan exemplar of the word “wry,” Keillor has a singular way with the tall tale and an old-fashioned, provincial wit that borders on —and sometimes plunges into — sentimentality. All this serves as a sort of a warning: When Keillor appears at 7:30 p.m. in the Broadway Center’s Pantages Theater, the staunch are certain to turn out in legions including the strong women, good-looking men and above-average children.
PREFUNK: Just days after their second anniversary, and with the launch of their canning program underway, Woodinville brewery Sumerian Brewing Co. will be the guest brewery at Peaks and Pints’ Lodge Meeting at 6 p.m. Their first can beer, Hopruption Double IPA, formerly known as Eruption, will pour from Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log, as will their NW Pale, Holy Water Citra IPA and Barrel Aged Wicked Master Imperial Stout. Door prizes will be given away.

MODERN FUNK

Olympia modern funk band Hotcabi hits the Rhythm & Rye stage at 9 p.m. Expect fresh originals and cover by Daft Punk, Michael Jackson, Soulive, Scofield, Stevie Wonder and others.
PREFUNK: New to Fish Brewing Co.’s Leavenworth line, Hatchery Creek India Pale Lager is a balanced brew with a medium body that goes down smooth. Combining the traditional German-style premium lager flavors, hopped with pungent Mosaic and Citra hops, with plenty of fruity Galaxy hops, the result is bright with a nice hoppy bite. Hatchery Creek India Pale Lager makes its debut from 5-8 p.m. at the Fish Tale Brewpub.
