TACOMA PREFUNK WEDNESDAY, AUG. 16 2017: Bale Breaker Frenz IPA and palm readings

PREFUNK: Bale Breaker Brewing Co. has launched its Harvest Collaboration Series — a chance for the Yakima Valley craft brewery to spend quality time with its fellow craft breweries. According to Bale Breaker hype, “For the Harvest Collaboration Series, we will be releasing four different beers brewed in collaboration with four different breweries, with release dates from late-August through early-October.” First up … Georgetown Brewery. The Seattle brewery entered the recently expanded Bale Breaker brewhouse to collaborate on Frenz IPA featuring Citra and Galaxy hops. It’s freakin’ delicious. Peaks and Pints grabbed a keg before its official release at the Washington Beer Collaboration Festival at South Lake Union Discovery Center lawn Aug. 19. Stop by Peaks and Pints today and enjoy this heavily-hopped, aromatic IPA. Peaks and Pints, Tacoma

1:45 and 6:45 P.M. NATIONAL VELVET: The Grand Cinema’s Classic Film Series continues with a screening of National Velvet, the 1945 film that made Elizabeth Taylor famous at age 12. She stars as Velvet Brown, a horse-obsessed girl who, with the help of penniless wanderer Mi Taylor (Mickey Rooney), rides her way to victory at the all-male Grand National. Did you know Velvet Brown’s horse was chosen by and later given to Elizabeth Taylor as a birthday present? Study up on more fun facts like this to win prizes in The Grand’s hosted trivia before the evening screening. The Grand Cinema, Tacoma

8 P.M. MIXED FORTUNES: If you want your fortune read, Del Brown, along with her friend’s Noelle Messinger and Rhiannon Christal Dawn Mueller, will have her crystal ball and astrological charts reading for you at The Mule Tavern tonight. OK, maybe there won’t be crystal balls or astrological charts, but there will be plenty of palm readings, tarot decks and cocktails. Oh, expect dark wave music (natch). The Mule Tavern, Tacoma
