Peaks & Pints Grit & Grain April 1 Flight

Share

Somewhere between a Nooksack River childhood and a Seattle brewhouse humming with low-end frequency and quiet ambition, this flight unfolds like a two-part meditation on place — one voice etched in mountain light and river memory, the other shaped by oak, weather, and a patience that borders on ritual. On one side, Kulshan Brewing, grounded and unhurried, beers that feel like they’ve spent time outside and see no need to explain themselves. On the other, Holy Mountain Brewing, where even the lightest pour carries the sense that something deeper is unfolding just out of view, guided by time, intention, and a yeast strain with opinions.

This all plays out live at Peaks & Pints on Wednesday, April 1, where Grit & Grain Podcast Episode 185 with Kulshan head brewer Wes Finger begins at 3:30 p.m., followed by Episode 186 with Holy Mountain’s Daniel Cady at 4:30 p.m., a tidy, slightly surreal double feature of Pacific Northwest brewing philosophy.

Together, the beers read like those conversations translated into liquid — a drift from forest floor to brewhouse shadow, from easy familiarity to quiet intrigue. Lager hums with calm authority, citrus flickers through soft haze, farmhouse notes murmur at the edges, and beneath it all runs that unmistakable Northwest current where weather isn’t just a condition, but a collaborator. Drink slowly, or don’t, but know this: somewhere between these glasses lives the full arc — land, movement, return — and the subtle realization that beer, at its best, is simply another way of paying attention.

Holy Mountain Brewing The Goat

4.9% ABV | Brett Saison | Seattle, Washington

A softly untamed thing, all hayfield hush and citrus peel drifting through a faint glow, as if it spent a season leaning against wood and thinking things through. The Brett moves gently — earthy, expressive, never unruly — while rye spice and herbal flickers come and go like passing thoughts. Lean, textured, and dry on the finish, it lands with a quiet confidence that feels both grounded and just a little wild.

Holy Mountain The White Lodge

4.8% ABV | Belgian-Style Witbier

Pale and luminous, like morning light filtered through thin curtains, with orange peel arriving first, followed by a soft bloom of coriander and a whisper of spice that never quite settles. Wheat and oats lend a smooth, airy body, while a faint biscuit note keeps things tethered. It finishes clean, gently citrus-kissed, and refreshingly composed, the kind of beer that rewards a moment of stillness.

Kulshan Brewing Helles

5% ABV | Helles Lager | Bellingham, Washington

Calm, composed, and entirely self-assured — soft bready malt opening like warm crust, a touch of honeyed grain drifting through, followed by a delicate floral lift that never overreaches. The body moves with ease, rounded but light, bitterness kept low and intentional. It finishes clean, lightly sweet, and endlessly drinkable, built for conversation more than analysis.

Kulshan Local Amber

5.5% ABV | Amber Lager

Warm and steady, like late afternoon light on polished wood, with toasted bread and soft caramel rising first, checked gently by an earthy bitterness that keeps everything in line. Smooth and balanced, with just enough weight to feel anchored, while a faint nuttiness and hint of hop spice drift in and out. It finishes clean, composed, and quietly satisfying.

Kulshan Bruce Springskiing

6% ABV | Hazy IPA | Bellingham, Washington

Bright and easygoing, like a bluebird day you didn’t plan for, with tangerine and mango floating through a soft haze, a flicker of grapefruit keeping things lively without sharpening the edges. The body stays plush and rounded, oats smoothing the ride, while a faint citrus pith and whisper of pine remind you where you are. It finishes juicy, relaxed, and gently insistent on one more sip.
