Here’s a fun fact for you: 40 percent of rattlesnakes bites happen to people who are playing with or handling snakes, and 40 percent of people bitten by rattlesnakes have a blood alcohol content of .10 or higher. If this screams you, then plan to wear ankle-height boots. If, bitten, yell something like “Ouch!” possibly in addition to a string of curse words. Next, call 911 or initiate a rescue. Lie down with the snakebite area below your heart, and move as little as possible to keep the venom localized. Do not (as you may have seen on TV) try to suck the venom out of the wound or tie off the bitten appendage with a tourniquet. 5TH ORBIT: DRY-HOPPED STRAWBERRY SOUR, Ecliptic Brewing: The Portland brewery’s fifth anniversary beer is the Dry-Hopped Strawberry Sour Ale brewed with real strawberries for a fresh strawberry nose. It’s not too sour that it takes away from the fruitiness. Belma, Mosaic, Chinook, Cascade and Simcoe hops complement the jammy strawberry. 8%, 500ml

BELGIAN CHRISTMAS ALE, pFriem Family Brewers: This big dubbel-based holiday ale is brewed with German Perle hops, candi sugar, coriander and Belgian ale yeast that changes flavor with every sip. Just as you think it’s a toffee delight it morphs into chocolate-covered orange. Then raisin. And cinnamon pastry. Oh, and dried cherry. 8%, 16.9oz

COMING OUT PARTY HAZY IPA, Breakside Brewery: Originally a collaboration with Comrade Brewing in Denver, this high-octane hazy IPA arrives with tropical, dank and citrus-heavy hops. Bonus: This craft beer celebrates a No. 9 ranking on Paste Magazine’s IPA this past summer. 7.8%, 22oz

KITTEN MITTENS BARREL-AGED, Kulshan Brewing: The cat’s meow with a rich, medium body that rubs against the tongue with chocolate, dates and figs. Balanced bitterness and playful hop aroma fit like a mitten. 11%, 500ml

MASSIVE!, Gigantic Brewing: Brewers in the midlands of England would boil their barleywines ales for longer times to intensify their flavors. In making Massive! Gigantic Brewing used only British Halcyon pale malt and boiled for eight hours, giving the beer a big fruity nose with dark sugars, a hint of cola, spice, a faint hint of sherry and traces of alcohol. The palate is rich and creamy with cherry, dried fruit and fig, plus toffee in the finish with a touch of bitterness. 12%, 16.9oz

WINTER ALE, pFriem Family Brewers: This hop forward winter warmer is brewed with Warrior, Cascade, Chinook, Simcoe, Mosaic, Citra and Nelson hops for juicy aromatic hops and flavors with rich maltiness, a touch of spice, orange zest and huckleberries. The finish leaves the mouth covered with a trace of caramel, cut by an assertive hoppiness. 7.5%, 16.9oz
