6-Pack of Things To Do: October 13-16 2022

Peaks & Pints’ 6-Pack of Things To Do is your go-to source for cool things to do in the greater Tacoma area. It’s completely free, but costs $10,000 if you don’t like it.

BEER FLIGHT: Last Saturday, the Seattle Mariners clinched an American League Wild Card win over the Blue Jays and advanced to the AL Division Series against the Houston Astros. The Houston Astros stunned the Seattle Mariners, notching an 8-7 walk-off victory on Tuesday in Game 1. The two sides meet at 12:37 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 in Houston. In celebration of Game 2, Peaks & Pints presents a to-go beer flight of Seattle and Texas brewed beers to enjoy while watching the game or ask a Peaks bartender to open the beers one by one while enjoying the game at our craft beer lodge in Tacoma’s Proctor District. Either way, we’re calling the flight Peaks and Pints Pilot Program: 2022 AL Division Series Beer Flight. 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 3816 N. 26th St., Basecamp Proctor, Tacoma

FILM: The 17th annual Tacoma Film Festival ends Thursday, Oct. 13. Know Your Place, the closing night film, will screen at the Blue Mouse Theatre in Tacoma’s Proctor District. Seattle’s issues with gentrification and its impact on our East African community are explored in the film as two teenage boys navigate the city to deliver a crucial and time-sensitive package to a friend. With an exemplary cast of first-time actors from South Seattle, Know Your Place poetically presents a community that has turned the camera lens upon itself, collaborating to bring a story of home to life in a way that honors the shared space of Seattle and the nuance of the individual experiences contained within it. A discussion with the film’s writer-director, Zia Mohajerjasbi, follows the film with DJ Taiga Dinger spinning during the closing celebration. 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, Blue Mouse Theatre, 2611 N. Proctor St., Tacoma

BEER PODCAST: The Grit & Grain Podcast sat down with Krysten Thompson and Matt Hibbs of the Browns Point Homebrew Club Wednesday to discuss their history, recipes, impact on the craft beer industry, their beloved North 47 Brewing home base, and more. Tune in Friday, Oct. 14, to hear Grit & Grain Episode 15 with Thompson and Hibbs, and the previous Grit & Grain episodes, at gritandgrainpodcast.com, or search your favorite podcast mediums, including Channel 253, yo.

CANDLELIGHT TOUR: Sure, you’ve used your phone to illuminate your way to the bathroom at Grandma Joan’s house, stopping for a moment to check out her thimble and spoon collections — maybe even her Civil War doily behind glass. The Fort Nisqually Living History Museum offers arguably a better tour in the dark this weekend. The museum embedded in Point Defiance Park hosts another Candlelight Tour featuring illumination by candlelight and campfire. You will eavesdrop as more than a hundred historical interpreters bring to life the men, women, and children of the Hudson’s Bay Company in the year 1857. Be entertained by songs, dances, and games. During the tours, these people from the past won’t give a crap about you as they go about their daily lives. 6-9 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14 and Saturday, Oct. 15, Fort Nisqually Living History Museum, Point Defiance Park, 5400 N. Pearl St., Tacoma, advance tickets required, 253.404.3970

CIRCUS: Tacoma Arts Live presents Cirque Mechanics Zephyr — “A Whirlwind of a Circus” — Sunday afternoon at the Pantages Theater. Expect an emotive and exhilarating tale inspired by the power of wind, and the tug-of-war between man and nature in the name of progress. Humans have been harnessing the power of the wind for thousands of years. The beauty of that timeless and ingenious process inspired the Cirque Mechanics creative team to create this new theatrical circus show that harnesses human power, instead of wind, to generate an energetic acrobatic experience. 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 16, Pantages Theater, 901 Broadway, Tacoma
