SWEETKISS MOMMA

Since forming roughly eight years ago, SweetKiss Momma came out of Puyallup on a full gallop. Formed in a church the band never intended to be a Southern soul rock band. But, as audiences began to embrace them as Southern rock, the band began to embrace that style. Turns out they fit pretty well in that mold. Hot off another European tour with a mantle full of awards, SweetKiss Momma will rock Old Town Park beginning at 6:30 p.m.

PREFUNK: Although Eric Akeson began delivering his beer to local bottle shops and groceries stores in 2012, he’s been a beer enthusiast since working in a Kirkland alehouse in the mid-’90s. He took his homebrew hobby to the next level in 2011, opening Puyallup River Brewing Co. in his South Hill home’s backyard. In 2013, he launched the Puyallup River Alehouse in downtown Puyallup. In 2015, he closed the Alehouse and became a production-only brewery. Hang with Akeson and crew in his old Alehouse space that is now Flanagan’s Craft Pub and drink his We Are The Champions IPA, Jack O’Lahar Pumpkin Ale, Raspberry Farmhouse Ale and other selections from 6-9 p.m.

ONE LOVE

Although the origin of roots music is in Jamaica, in the last few years there has been a resurgence of newer U.S.-based artists inspired by the music and message, including western Washington. Mike Pinto, Joe Fish & The Wurm and 3 Little Birds will fill Jazzbones with irie acoustic vibes beginning at 9 p.m.

PREFUNK: It’s been just over two years since Joel Gregory opened the nation’s first non-profit brewery, launching Ex Novo Brewing in Portland’s Eliot neighborhood. While people sip the amazing tropical fruit-laden hop bomb Elliot IPA, non-profits Mercy Corps, International Justice Mission, Impact NW and Friends of the Children benefit. Do-goodnik and brew-goodnik Gregory visits Tacoma tonight, offering his flagship Eliot IPA, Cactus Wins the Lottery Prickly Pear Berliner Weisse, Dot the O Kölsch, V for Vienna Lager and Fresh Hop Casual Ex Session IPA from 5-7 p.m. at Pint Defiance.

RETRO BILL COLBY

Bill Colby is a master of print media who works in intaglio, woodcuts and other media, often combining print media with watercolor and acrylic and typically using the natural grain of the wood in his woodcuts to create movement of water or other natural elements. Kittredge Gallery at the University of Puget Sound hosts a Bill Colby Retrospective (1955–2016), with Colby in the house from 5-7 p.m.

PREFUNK: Silver City Brewery will break the Internets if it doesn’t slow down on the newsworthy posts and accolades. Makes sense, though, as the Bremerton brewery celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The Red Hot adds a Silver City pat on the back with a special Silver City Pint Night beginning at 5 p.m. Silver City rep Jordan Marsh will drop by with pints, Whoop Pass IIPA and Oktoberfest Lager.
