I get up at seven, yeah
And I go to work at nine;
I got no time for livin’
Yes, I’m workin’ all the time.

TUESDAY, JAN. 20 2017: Tacoma event paired with craft beer …

Lemay — America’s Car Museum + Peaks and Pints = hard work and easy drinking

The Swiss Restaurant & Pub + The Copper Door = Jack and Nathan

TOOLS OF THE TRADE

Lemay — America’s Car Museum exhibit Tools of the Trade — Powering the Working Class tells the story of the steadfast work vehicles that formed the backbone of American commerce in the first half of the 20th century. Check it out from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

PREFUNK: Yes, of course you’re still drinking. Maybe not right now — or, maybe coffee right now — but today is Day 10 of January, a month that some folks go dry. Not you. You just dial it down a bit, as in “session beers.” Session beers are any beers that are low in alcohol (usually 3-6% ABV), and thus suitable prolonged consumption, i.e. “a session,” as coined by the ever-euphemistic Brits. Founders All Day (4.7%) is the OG of this category and Firestone Walker Easy Jack (4.5%) is a definite contender for new classic, both sitting in Peaks and Pints’ cooler in their crushable (in more ways than one) cans. But don’t let the flood of IPAs distract you from the fact that there are some seriously good APAs (American pale ales) around too. They’re a little more balanced and demure but still have a solid hop character. Game? Bale Breaker Field 41 (4.5%) is an easy-drinking session pale ale, dry-hopped with the brewery’s star ingredient — locally grown hops. This craft beer has the juicy hoppiness of an IPA, but without the bitterness or heavy ABV.

BEER SCIENCE

Grit City Think & Drink brings scientists and experts face-to-face with the general public in the comfortable, lively atmosphere at The Swiss Restaurant and Pub. At 6 p.m., Dr. Jack Vincent of the University of Tacoma will give a presentation on “Genes, Enzymes, Medicine, and (of Course) Beer: The Awesome Power of Brewer’s Yeast and Why It Matters to All of Us” while everyone drinks the craft beer on tap.

PREFUNK: Every Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. The Copper Door hosts a beer flight. The Tacoma Stadium District bottle shop and taproom makes it interesting by adding a punch card redeemable for kick ass swag. We’re not sure who Nathan is, but it’s his birthday and The Copper Door is letting him pick tonight’s beer flight, which is exciting. Off Color Brewing Fierce, Oskar Blues Dale’s Pale Ale, Founders Dirty Bastard and Against The Grain 35K is how Nathan rolls.
