Happy birthday Grand Cinema!

TUESDAY, APRIL 18 2017: Beer and a movie …

THE GRAND TURNS 20

We have The Grand Cinema to thank for making special movie moments happen over the past 20 years. The little Tacoma movie house reaches the big 20 officially today, and with such a milestone approaching we can’t help but look back. Vivid scenes of The Grand fostering a community’s love for local and international cinema replay through our heads. Drop by The Grand today wearing your Grand T-shirt and enjoy free admission to T2 Trainspotting, A Stray, Gifted, The Zookeeper’s Wife or Personal Shopper. Enter your ticket stub for a chance to win free prizes. At 6 p.m., it’s party time in the theater’s lower lobby. Surrounded by wall art of past films, attendees can reminisce and network over beverages and dessert while the staff salutes those who saved the business from closing its doors in 1997.

PREFUNK: The Belgian quadruple is the strongest in a series of Trappist styles, beginning with the single (better known as an abbey), the dubbel (double) and the tripel (triple). Quads are the strongest of the Belgian beers, often over 10 percent ABV. It’s a dark beer that ranges from black to deep red or garnet, with a rich bold maltiness that combines with yeasty hints of raisin, dates, figs, grapes and plums. The quad is not hoppy. It’s known for alcoholic warmth and a complex sweetness, with wine and liquor-like characteristics. Make it a Quad kind of day. Peaks and Pints has several quads in our cooler including Rochefort Trappistes 10, St. Bernardus Abt 12, Unibroue Trois Pistoles and Brewery Ommegang Three Philosophers.
