THE CONFIRMATION

Bob Nelson was part of the famed local comedy show Almost Live which made fun of the city of Kent a lot. Nelson lived in Kent. And now, almost 16 years later after that show’s demise, Nelson is almost famous, no he is famous, after his Oscar-nominated screenplay turned into an Alexander Payne movie called “Nebraska,” starring Bruce Dern. Now Nelson has directed a light drama, The Confirmation, about an alcoholic father attempting to pass some values to his son despite circumstances unconducive to good parenting. The film screens at 1:45 and 7 p.m. at The Grand Cinema. There will be an exclusive, in theater Q&A with director Nelson following the 7 p.m. screening.

PREFUNK: New Belgium Brewing has come a long way since founders Jeff Lebesch and Kim Jordan first started cranking out beers in 1991. Tonight, The Copper Door steers its Tasting Tuesday toward the brewery’s 25th anniversary by pouring a flight of the brewery’s iconic Fat Tire Amber Ale brewed with five other breweries around the country — Allagash, Firestone Walker, Hopworks Urban Brewery, Rhinegeist and Avery. At 6 p.m., and for only $6, you may order a flight of Fat Funk, Fat Hoppy, Fat Sour Apple, Fat Pale, Fat Wild and the original Fat Tire.

TACOMA CO-OP RALLY

Still shaking after the Tacoma Food Co-op shut its doors last week? There’s a “rally” to answer questions and seek solutions at 7 p.m. at the Epworth LeSourd United Methodist Church in Tacoma. What is known: Seattle-based Central Co-op merged with the Tacoma Food Co-op in December. The co-op’s board unexpectedly shut the grocery without warning to members and customers July 18 after negotiations with its landlord failed to reach an agreement on terms, rates and duration of a the building lease.
