THURSDAY PREFUNK: Redhook Tacoma Library benefit plus Tim Meadows

THURSDAY, MAY 25 2017: Tacoma events + craft beer …

PREFUNK: A good rauchbier has a strong smokiness, but you never forget you’re drinking a beer. A little smoke can go a long way. It’s an even tougher task for a brewer to make a smoked beer that’s based on a light-bodied golden ale or lager. Redhook Brewery’s small batch brewer Nick Crandell is well known for his venturesome, sometimes whimsical, beer recipes. He’s a brewer who’s not afraid to produce what even craft brewers consider offbeat, like a collaboration Rauch Helles with Chuckanut Brewery, which makes sense since both breweries have been in operation since the 1980s. The Rauch Helles captures the smoky flavors of a Rauch lager, combined with the gentle and easy-to-drink Helles lager. Rauch Hells will from flow from our Western red cedar tap log as part of our 6 p.m. Lodge Meeting with Redhook Brewery. Other Redhook brews on tap at Peaks and Pints include Big Ballard Imperial IPA, Bi-Coastal IPA, Salmon Safe Copperhook and Blackhook Revisited Brown Porter. One hundred percent of the sales of said Rauch Helles and Blackhook Revisited will be donated to the Tacoma Public Library. Friends of Tacoma Public Library advocacy group will be in the house chatting up books. Peaks and Pints, Tacoma

6 P.M. THE BRUERY: It didn’t take long for The Bruery to make its mark in the world of beer. Founded in Placentia, Calif., by Patrick Rue (get it?), the beer-maker has a penchant for putting out liquids the craft beer community routinely goes ape-shit for. Engine House No. 9 will unleash The Bruery goodness tonight. Engine House No. 9, Tacoma

6 P.M. BOB’S BROWN ALE: Manny Chao, co-founder of Georgetown Brewing and namesake of their flagship beer, Manny’s Pale Ale, began brewing Bob’s Brown Ale in honor of his friend, Bob Hirsch. Hirsch died of cancer just after celebrating his 21st birthday; May 14 was his birthday. The Parkway Tavern will celebrate the release again with a Bob’s Brown Night with Georgetown Brewing in the house, with a raffle and auction items, at 6 p.m. One hundred percent of the proceeds from Bob’s are donated in honor of Hirsch to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Parkway Tavern, Tacoma

7:30 P.M.: TIM MEADOWS: Tim Meadows, who’s essentially synonymous with Saturday Night Live: His decade-long tenure at the sketch-comedy show made him one of the longest-running cast members there. Aside from appearing in a number of films based on Saturday Night Live sketches, the Michigan-born comedian has memorably popped up in everything from The Colbert Report and Curb Your Enthusiasm to The Office and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Meadows is in Tacoma for a three-night stand. Tacoma Comedy Club, Tacoma
