The Daily Outside: Trees vs. Tornado, 4.29.26

Wednesday’s Daily Outside moves between preparation and release — learning how to care for what’s rooted, then heading out to move through it with a few easy miles and good company.

Trees under stress, changing weather, and the home landscape as frontline

Tacoma Tree Foundation — Preparing Your Home Forest for Extreme Weather with Sarah Low

This is tree care for the era of weird weather, when the backyard no longer gets to pretend it exists outside the climate conversation. Drier summers, harsher heat, shifting insects, fungal disease, fire risk, and more dramatic weather swings all put pressure on the trees we often assume will simply keep doing tree things forever. This Tacoma Tree Foundation talk with Sarah Low is built around a more useful idea: don’t panic, learn how to read the signs.

The session focuses on care and stewardship for trees in home landscapes as conditions change. Expect practical guidance on identifying stress, reducing risk, supporting tree health, and preparing your property for extreme events without turning the whole thing into disaster theater. It’s a good fit for anyone with a yard, a beloved street tree, a nervous relationship with summer heat, or the sudden realization that shade is infrastructure.

Afterward, meet up at Peaks & Pints.

We suggest something grounded with a little lift — Lumberbeard Brewing’s Cut-Off Flannel IPA — because a day spent thinking about trees pairs well with citrus, pine, and a place to settle back into conversation.
