The Daily Outside: Tacoma Runners, Work Parties, Master Gardeners 2.28.26
Saturday reads like a field guide with too many good tabs open: sunrise miles, dirt-under-the-nails stewardship, windowsill revolutions, ink-stained leaves, and a late-afternoon room full of bird nerds plotting the future. Choose wisely. Or don’t. Do two.
Forest miles, car-free curves, and that smug glow by 9 a.m.
Tacoma Runners FREE Saturday 5K
Saturday, Feb. 28, 2026 • Meet 7 a.m. • Start 8 a.m. sharp
Point Defiance Park — just beyond the first closed gate on 5 Mile Drive
Free • 5K (3.1 miles) • Optional Mochi Mile • Dogs welcome
At 8 a.m., a small herd of humans slips into the woods and calls it self-care. The 3.1-mile loop rolls through Point Defiance on a blissfully car-free stretch of 5 Mile Drive — no engines, no intersections, just breath, footfall, and maybe a leash jingling ahead of you. Pace doesn’t matter. Front-pack flyers, chatty cruisers, gravity negotiators — all welcome. Be done before most people finish their first scroll.
Meet beyond the first closed gate. Park roadside or warm up from Owen Beach. Bring shoes you trust and a layer for the chill.
