TACOMA PREFUNK WEDNESDAY JUNE 28 2017: Dr. Breedlove’s IPA and other tastings

PREFUNK: Dr. Randall Breedlove is a badass. The registered pharmacist built computers, websites and databases while attending pharmacy school. The Tacoman has been a clinical pharmacist, drug information specialist, pharmaceutical automation implementation specialist and most recently involved in healthcare information technologies. That’s all badass, but when he’s not wearing a white coat he’s pedaling road and mountain bikes in faraway lands with post ride craft beer celebrations. You see, the good doctor knows craft beer inside and out thanks to his extensive schooling. After multiple craft beer geek-out session with Tacoma Brewing Co. founder and head brewer Morgan Alexander the two gents agreed to brew an IPA together. The result is Dr. Breedlove’s IPA, a tropical, bright massively juicy IPA with that East Coast haze that’s all the craze right now. Dr. Breedlove’s IPA is pouring from Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log. Peaks and Pints, Tacoma

5 P.M. A TASTE OF DOWN UNDER: Above, we chatted up Tacoma craft beer geek Dr. Randall Breedlove. The Tacoman wine geek version is Kris Blondin, owner of STINK Meat + Cheese and neighboring El Tofu Spanish tapas and wine bar. Blondin, former owner of Vin Grotto wine bar, a wine distributor and columnist, knows wine inside and out. Tonight, she’s hosting a wine tasting featuring varietals from Australia and New Zealand. El Tufo, Tacoma

5 P.M. STAR DEATH TRIPLE IPA: Urban Family Brewing Co., nestled in the northeast corner of the Seattle neighborhood of Magnolia, will drop by Brewers Row with its Star Death Triple IPA. According to Star Death hype, it’s “one for the books, coming at 10.2% and dry hopped over and over again with 4lbs per barrel of Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic, and Motueka hops. Huge grapefruit, citrus and tropical pineapple notes lead way to a smooth (but strong!) finish.” Expect to see other Urban Family craft beers in the Row too. Brewers Row, Tacoma
