TACOMA PREFUNK TUESDAY, AUG. 1 2017: E9 Frambuesa Moka and blues jam

PREFUNK: When people discuss sour beers, rarely do they discuss it in terms of dark beers. Dark sour beers are on the periphery right now but they are coming and were on display. E9 Brewery’s Frambuesa Moka is everything one could hope for in a sour stoutit’s acidic on the first sip as one would expect from a sour beer, but it is also extremely creamy, smooth and toasty like a stout should be. It’s a great marriage of these two very distinct styles and its profiles. Then, the Tacoma brewery adds raspberries. Raspberry and chocolate, subtle barrel influence, sour on the finish that complements the raspberry — it’s amazing. E9’s Frambuesa Moka flows from Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log. Peaks and Pints, Tacoma

2 AND 6:30 P.M. MOKA: Two grandes dames of the French cinema face off in THIS psychological thriller when a grieving mother (Emmanuelle Devos) tracks down the aging beautician (Nathalie Baye) who may have killed the former’s teenage son in a hit-and-run accident. The mother takes a two-pronged approach to her pursuit, posing as a customer to strike up a friendship with the beautician even as she negotiates privately with the woman’s husband (David Clavel) for the purchase of their dented Mercedes. Once these twin deceptions dovetail, her true identity will be exposed, but there are surprises in store for her as well. The Grand Cinema, Tacoma

8 P.M. TUESDAY BLUESDAY JAM: The Valley has launched a blues jam every Tuesday featuring house band Anthony Estrada, Curtis Smith, Billy Green and Peter Tietjen, which is reason enough to check this night out. Who will sit in with the band tonight? The Valley, Tacoma
