TACOMA PREFUNK THURSDAY, MARCH 8 2018: Best of the West beer and Nate Jackson

PREFUNK: The West Coast is dotted with hundreds of craft breweries giving beer lovers a righteous selection of brews from West Coast-style IPAs to sour beers and other groovy styles. Peaks and Pints will host seven of the best West Coast craft breweries (and one cidery) in Columbia Distributing’s portfolio for an outtasight brewers’ night. Expect to drink two craft beers from Ballast Point Brewing, Crux Fermentation Project, Fremont Brewing Co., Georgetown Brewing, Lagunitas Brewing, Rogue Ales, Seattle Cider Co. and Two Beers Brewing Co.

6:30 P.M. THE LIVING FIRE: Since early February the esteemed Grand Cinema has transformed itself into a veritable Stargate portal to global cinema. The Tacoma Sister Cities Film Festival has already flung audiences to Japan, Cuba, Norway, France and South Korea, and has more stops in store each Thursday of the festival’s run. The journey continues tonight with The Living Fire, an Ukranian documentary shot by Ostap Kostyuk, that provides an intimate and respectful look at an increasingly fragile and detached rural community of herders. The title card, which reads “Only a few remain to carry on the craft of their ancestors”, is followed by breathtaking shots of the snow-laden mountain ranges, evincing much of the film to follow: awe-inspiring, defiant and focused on characters that define themselves through isolation.

8 P.M. NATE JACKSON’S SUPER FUNNY COMEDY SHOW: Nate Jackson’s Super Funny Comedy Show continues its run at Keys On Main in downtown Tacoma. The Lacey comedian organizes a super funny collection of super comedians. Jackson is a super funny comic himself, so much so that he reigned supreme at the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition won previously by Mark Curry and Jamie Foxx. Jackson will introduce super funny comedians Barry Brewer, Auntie Catrina and Robert “Cash” Moore.
