TACOMA PREFUNK JULY 8 2017: Rico Sauvin and Tacoma Pride

PREFUNK: We all remember Rico Suave. According to singer Gerardo in 1991, Rico Sauve was a Latin ladies man whom, according to the song, his “only addiction has to do with the female species.” It’s our guess after one sip Rico Suave would also be addicted to Rico Sauvin, Against The Grain Brewery’s double IPA brewed with Nelson Sauvin hops. Named after both its founding region in New Zealand and the Sauvignon Blanc grape, Nelson Sauvin is an exciting, distinctive hop varietal that was released nine years after Gerardo’s song dropped. Hailing from a small bay on the north coast of the country’s South Island, Nelson Sauvin is a perfect summertime hop; it possesses strong fruity aromas and flavors of tropical fruit and crushed grapes that mingle with citrus like tangerine and passionfruit, which is exactly the taste of Rico Sauvin (8%) — and better taste than Rico Suave no doubt. Rico Sauvin waits for you in peaks and Pints’ cooler. Peaks and Pints, Tacoma

NOON TACOMA PRIDE: Rainbow Center’s Annual LGBTQA Pride Event, Tacoma Pride — formerly Out in the Park — celebration is a street-festival held in downtown Tacoma noon to 5 p.m. It’s a family-friendly event featuring more than 100 street-side vendors, live music, cirque performers, vaudeville and drag acts, as well as guest speakers and dignitaries. South Ninth and Pacific Avenue, Tacoma

7 P.M. STRANGELY ALRIGHT: Strangely Alright is more than all right — the band is awesome. Its music is fun, timeless and real. Fronted by longtime Tacoma musician Regan Lane (Baby Knockors, Strypes, Groovy Times in Babylon, BrokenNess), take the Beatles and Super Furry Animals sprinkled it with some Bowie, Traveling Wilburys and Elvis Costello and add confessional lyrics a la John Lennon and Bob Dylan and you have the power pop band Strangely Alright.
