SUNDAY PREFUNK: Craft beer before Oscar winners and drunk comics

Share

SUNDAY, MARCH 5 2016: Tacoma events paired with craft beer …

Broadway Center + Peaks and Pints = Maximilian Schell and Matchless Bar

Tacoma Comedy Club + Top of Tacoma Bar and Café = Sunday night booze

OSCAR ON THE SQUARE

The grandstanding 1961 courtroom drama Judgment at Nuremberg about the Nazi war trials, courtesy of producer-director Stanley Kramer, breast-beating screenwriter Abby Mann, and an all-star cast hits Broadway Center’s Theatre on the Square screen at 3 p.m. The academy rose to the bait, and Maximilian Schell won an Oscar for his performance as defense attorney, beating down Spencer Tracy, Burt Lancaster, Judy Garland, Marlene Dietrich, Montgomery Clift, and Richard Widmark. Mann copped one as well.

PREFUNK: An antimetabole for famous Brooklyn dive Bar Matchless, Matchess Bar might have the alcohol by volume to keep said dive bar patrons banging heads to punk rock and horror movie double features, but this imperil stout by Tumwater’s Matchless Brewing Co. has much more chocolate and vanilla flavor. It’s creamy. It’s rich. It’s on tap at Peaks and Pints.

THE DRUNK SHOW

The Tacoma Comedy Club presents The Drunk Show where five comics perform a set each sober, and then while the other comics are performing they pound booze and return to the stage wasted to do another set. Jubal Flagg from Movin 95.5 FM tries to keep the thing flowing, beginning at 8 p.m.

PREFUNK: There are always reasons to drink, particularly appealing this month. Top of Tacoma Bar and Café will be boozing it up tonight, inviting Woodinville Whiskey Company and Pelican Brewing Co. up to McKinley Hill for a joint session beginning at 6 p.m.
