Share

SATURDAY, JULY 16 2016: South Sound events + craft beer

China Davis + Bremerton Summer Brewfest = Peninsula represent

Brass Monkeys + Christmas in July = Ho ho, yo

CHINA DAVIS

Twenty years ago Gig Harbor raised brothers Ben and Ted Fuller took their love for U2, Bob Dylan, Velvet Underground, John Lennon, Woody Guthrie, The Doors, Van Morrison, Tom Petty, The Alarm and The Moberlys and created original music in several bands, most notably China Davis. Songwriter Ben has been working on new material for the past year, dissecting and rebuilding note by note. At 9 p.m. in The Valley, China Davis will perform a set of all new material. Patrick Galactic, Brad Yaeger and Danny Cash (Johnny tribute) will open.

PREFUNK: Bremerton has some big parties each year, but none is bigger than BrewFest. Day two of the Washington Beer Commission’s sixth annual event kicks off at noon and runs until 6:30 p.m. on the city’s Louis Mentor Boardwalk. Thirty-four breweries, including a strong West Sound contingent, will pour around 120 beers, including Rainier’s first beer brewed in Washington in two decades.

BRASS MONKEYS

Close your eyes and those memories of baggy Ben Davis pants, Caesar haircuts and the Beastie Boys performing at the first KNDD Endfest on Aug. 8, 1992 at the Kitsap County Fairground just might come flooding back. Tribute bands are now the best way to hear Beastie Boys tunes live. The group has faced an uncertain future since the 2012 death of Adam “MCA” Yauch, a key voice behind such Beastie Boys classics as “Pass the Mic” and “So What’cha Want.” Beastie Boys tribute band Brass Monkeys will perform at 10 p.m. in Gordon & Purdy’s Public House in Sumner.

PREFUNK: Do you feel a chill in the air? Jack Frost nipping at your nose? Hard to imagine on 74-plus degree days in the middle of summer, but The Copper Door will be celebrating the holiday season all day by pouring six Christmas and winter ales: Northwest Brewing Foggy Goggles, Port Brewing/The Lost Abbey Bourbon Barrel Aged Santa’s Little Helper, Widmer Brothers Brewing Brrrbon ’14, Shmaltz Brewing He’brew Jewbelation, pFriem Family Brewers Christmas Ale and Grand Teton Brewing Jack Daniel’s Black Cauldron Imperial Stout. What better way to mark that there are 161 shopping days left until December 25 than throwing on your ugly Christmas sweater, listen to holiday tunes and chill while enjoying these big beers.
