Peaks & Pints 2025 Tournament of Beer: Northwest IPAs April 19

Peaks and Pints challenged 64 Oregon and Washington’s best Northwest-style IPAs to go IBU-to-IBU in craft beer combat for over two weeks. Some fell easily by the wayside, either due to a rogue taproom employee or simply because they faced a superior opponent. Pint by pint, we drank our way through two weeks. It was do-or-die, win-or-fly, bring-your-best-or-acetaldehyde.

Here’s a recap of yesterday’s Tournament of Beer Second Round action—the last eight Northwest IPAs in the Second Round battle on Monday, April 21. See you back here Monday to begin the final week of voting. …

Friday, April 18, Second Round Northwest IPA Games Results

GAME 1, NORTHERN WASHINGTON REGION

Hellbent Brewing House IPA (#7 seed) vs. Rainy Daze Brewing Pourhouse IPA (#2 seed)

Despite Rainy Daze’s Pourhouse owning most of yesterday’s game, Hellbent Brewing and their beloved House IPA, plus their large, devoted, Hellbent-y following, poured it on in the last remaining hours and grabbed 54 percent of the vote. Turn up the house as House IPA enters the Sweet Work 16 to battle the winner of Stoup Citra IPA versus Old Schoolhouse Allgood IPA.

GAME 2, SOUTHERN WASHINGTON REGION

Camp Colvos Brewing Buckhorn IPA (#16 seed) vs. Talking Cedar Brewery Pacific Northwest IPA (#9 seed)

Talking Cedar’s Pacific Northwest IPA bounced IBUs off Camp Colvis’ Buckhorn all day but never came close. Camp Colvos posted a play-by-play Instagram Story on how to vote for their Northwest-style IPA. Rumor has it Camp Colvos also worked the ferry to Vashon Island — the location of their first Camp. We have no idea what Talking Cedar did because the cedars were stunned and stopped talking. As the clock hit midnight, Buckhorn IPA had 74 percent of the votes and a spot in the Sweet Wort 16.

This game disrupted Hood River’s Friday.

GAME 3, NORTHERN OREGON REGION

Ferment Brewing Take Me To The River IPA (#11 seed) vs. pFriem Family Brewers IPA (#3 seed)

pFriem Family Brewers kept a lead all day with ferocious play from their IPA. The piney aroma and huge citrus were too much for Ferment’s Take Me To the River IPA. It was genius for pFriem to post a stunning photo of Arrowleaf balsamroot above the Columbia River on Instagram yesterday. pFriem grabbed 75 percent of the vote and moves into the Sweet Wort 16 to battle the Monday winner between Buoy IPA and Breakside IPA.

GAME 4, SOUTHERN OREGON REGION

Silver Moon Brewing IPA 97 (#5 seed) vs. Crux Fermentation Project Grade A (#13 seed)

Yesterday, Bend, Oregon, residents were OK with the Bend North Corridor Project construction on Highway 97, the major north-south route undergoing significant improvements, particularly in the north part of town. Silver Moon Brewing named its Northwest-style IPA after Highway 97, which sits above the brewery. According to yesterday’s votes, drivers, most with smiles, pulled into Silver Moon for an IPA 97 before heading home. One Bend resident hopped up on Silver Moon’s indoor stage and belted “97 Luftballons.” Following the Tournament online, Jay-Z called Silver Moon and told them he has 97 problems and their IPA ain’t one. As you can gather, Silver Moon IPA 97 beat Crux Grade A yesterday, and they did so with 60 percent of the votes.

Let’s check the fermenter. The following are advancing to the Sweet Wort 16:

Hellbent House IPA

Camp Colvos Buckhorn IPA

pFriem IPA

Silver Moon IPA 97
