Spicy foods cause a burning feeling is because they contain an irritant, such as capsaicin in jalapeños. These irritants bind to receptors on the tongue, which signals to brain to counteract.

If you’re reading this post, our guess is that you counteract with craft beer or cider for an initial wave of relief. But, capsaicin won’t dissolve in water-based solutions, and bitterness can amplify capsaicin.

Peaks and Pints suggest pairing pFriem’s Mexican Lager with our very spicy sandwich special today. The Vienna lager’s malt sweetness is an excellent foil for the Secret Aardvark Sauce and jalapeños on the roast beef, bacon, goat cheese and fried onions sandwich.
