Peaks and Pints Prefunk Six-Pack 8.29.23: Shakespeare in the Park … in the Armory

If you’re familiar with Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, you’ll enjoy seeing the unexpected ways Tacoma Arts Live and Director Deanna Martinez reinvents this whimsical romantic comedy by rooting it in a celebration of Boricua-Hawaiiana culture; however, you don’t need to know the play to follow along and dig this spirited and inspired show. Magic, potions, and mystery are met with hula, ipu heke, and true aloha spirit in this fantastical escape. Hawaii will fully surround the audience and performers through beautiful, huge projections created by flora&faunavisions, the designers behind the current mesmerizing production at the Armory, Utopian Garden. This is Shakespeare in the Park … in the Armory so aloha shirts and flower crowns are encouraged, as well as beach towels, leis, lauhala mats, pillows, and low-profile beach chairs. It’s in its final week: 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31-Saturday, Sept. 2, 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3. Grab the Peaks and Pints Prefunk Six-Pack 8.29.23: Shakespeare in the Park … in the Armory from our cooler, read up on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and then go get some aloha. …
