Share

Peaks and Pints has been making lists — and checking them twice — and at the top of every list is pFriem Family Brewers. Tonight, the Hood River, Oregon, brewery will be at Peaks & Pints for a lodge meeting we’ve titled, “We’re pFrieming of a Craft Beer Christmas.” At 6 p.m., we’ll tap coveted pFriem craft beers such as Belgian Christmas Ale, Maple Barrel Aged Smoked Porter, Bourbon Barrel-Aged Barleywine, Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout, and Winter Ale. Be sure to “holidize” your outfit tonight as Peaks and Pints will be decked out for the holidays, with pFriem gifts o’plenty under the tree. In conjunction, Peaks & Pints suggests you take home a flight of pFriem goodies — a to-go flight we’re calling Peaks and Pints Pilot Program: pFriem Beer Flight.

Peaks and Pints Pilot Program: pFriem Beer Flight

pFriem Belgian Style Christmas Ale

8% ABV, 30 IBU

pFriem Belgian Style Christmas Ale changes from moment to moment. This big dubbel-based holiday ale is brewed with German Perle hops, candi sugar, coriander and Belgian ale yeast that changes flavor with every sip. Just as you think it’s a toffee delight it morphs into chocolate-covered orange. Then raisin. And cinnamon pastry. Oh, and dried cherry. And …

pFriem Maple Barrel Aged Smoked Porter

9.1% ABV, 45 IBU

pFriem’s Maple Barrel aged Smoke Porter is brewed with smoked malt brewed to high strength, then aged in barrels first used for bourbon, then maple syrup, and finally this Maple Syrup Barrel Aged Smoked Porter. It’s potent, smoky, and rich, with the aroma of syrup you’d drizzle on a stack of flapjacks, followed by notes of pecan pie baking in a wood-fired oven, rich toffee, and dark chocolate delight the palate before giving way to a decadent finish.

pFriem Rum Barrel Aged Porter

9.5% ABV, 45 IBU

pFriem ages their Imperial Porter for a year in barrels kissed by the Caribbean rum barrels, giving pFriem’s Rum Barrel Aged Porter black walnut with ruby red hues sitting beneath the dense khaki foam. Seductive aromas of Belgian chocolates, cinnamon, nutmeg, red velvet cake, and molasses hit the nose. Expect luscious flavors of vanilla bean, chocolate truffles, rum cake, ripe cherries, and Mexican hot cocoa with a soft, round, and decadent finish.

pFriem Cherry Brandy Barrel Aged Belgian Strong Ale

10% ABV, 38 IBU

Belgian tradition and Oregon brewing ingenuity do a little jig in cherry brandy barrels to deliver an alluringly complex beer with a malt bill of Pilsner, Pale Chocolate, Black Malt, double Roasted Crystal, plus Belgian Dark Candi Sugar and Belgian Ale yeast before spending time in cherry brandy barrels. Expect aromas of fig, caramelized raisins, brandied cherries, and demerara sugar giving way to sophisticated flavors of dried dates, toffee, cherry cordial, and baking spice.

pFriem Bourbon Barrel Aged Barleywine

11% ABV, 33 IBU

Brewed with Demerara sugar and aged in bourbon barrels, pFriem Bourbon Barrel Aged Barleywine offers caramel and baking spice aromas. A hearty sip brings out fig and dried plum, expectant of beers showing the benefit of age. Brown sugar and dried fruit linger on the pallet, highlighted by a sophisticated resonance of American oak.

pFriem Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout

11.5% ABV

pFriem’s Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout absorbs the tannins of Oola Distiller’s Bourbon barrels for a full year, resulting in a midnight black color topped with a dense, creamy, and chocolate mousse foam. Powerful aromas of cocoa, caramel, coconut, toasted oak, and chocolate covered berries hit the nose, followed by big flavors of ripe cherries, red velvet cake with a hint of char and a touch of Bourbon. It finishes with a kiss of oak tannins and a mouth coating richness.

pFriem Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Brown Ale

12.3% ABV, 45 IBU

Aged in rye whiskey barrels for a year, pFriem’s Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Brown pours a black walnut hue, bursting with rich notes of brandied cherry, toffee, and a kiss of char. Rich and bold flavors of creamy vanilla bean, rye, dried fruit, and toffee coat the tongue. It finishes with a touch of spice, wood smoke, and round heat.
