Peaks and Pints Pilot Program: Amarillo Hops On The Fly

Share

If it were socially acceptable to drink beer in the morning, one with Amarillo hops would be the perfect way to start the day — combined with a balanced breakfast (of course). Amarillo provides a super-citrusy aroma verging on oranges, lively citrus flavor, and a medium-high bitterness, that is sure to wake the taste buds. The hop may seem as though they might be grown in the foothills of the Spanish Pyrennes but in fact come from Washington’s Virgil Gamache Farms. And while most strains can be propagated independently through the purchase of rhizomes, Amarillo is not one that you will be growing in your backyard (unless your backyard is Virgil G. Farms). Wake up to Amarillo hops and our to-go flight, Peaks and Pints Pilot Program: Amarillo Hops On The Fly.

Block 15 Selection Series: Amarillo

7% ABV

Block 15 Brewing’s Selection Series is a limited seasonal release of single hop IPAs highlighting the relationship with regional hop farms and the science behind the selection process. This IPA was brewed exclusively with Amarillo hops from Virgil Gamche Farms in Toppenish, Washington. With an unobtrusive grist profile and soft water base as the canvas, this beer is meant for Amarillo’s vibrant notes of orange marmalade, lychee, and pine to shine.

Skygazer The Traveler Series, Chapter Three — Aberration

8% ABV

Skygazer Brewing out of North Haven, Connecticut, asks: “What happens when you combine hazy IPAs with a little bit of sci-fi?” Answer: You get The Traveler Series. Chapter Three — Aberration: Year 2068.

“The crew accepted their new reality. They understood the journey was now endless. The ship stabilized and they let their tensions fade. Traveler sped calmly, and silently through the depths of the unreachable. A pale presence appeared in the distance. It grew closer. This aberration was far from expected. What they began to observe was haunting, peaceful, endless. Sums of time. Forming of stars. The edges of eternity. Never to be seen by anyone again. They surrendered their return home, to experience what could never be experienced. The pinnacle of consciousness.”

Chapter Three celebrates the exploration of Amarillo and Columbus hops. Skygazer and how Amarillo, typically known for its tropical, citrus and rindy notes, pairs with Columbus, which typically expresses dank, weedy, earthy, and resinous aromas and flavors.

Equilibrium Mass x Acceleration

8% ABV

Equilibrium Brewery‘s Mass x Acceleration, or Force, is a hazy IPA brewed with Mosaic and Amarillo. This juicy elixir pours a glowing tangerine color with aromas of dank orange juice with that melony EQ juice thing. The taste is orange/mango for days, melon flavored gummy bear juice, and a 15-yard penalty.

Ascendant Seismic Upgrade

8.1% ABV

“Brace yourself for our clean, bright bitterness and crisp finish of our dry hopped Northwest IPA,” states Ascendant Seismic Upgrade hype. “Don’t fault us if the Mosaic, Amarillo, and Simcoe hops shake your belief in the IPAs you have been enjoying up to now. Ok, forget all that, this is Seismic Upgrade. Actually, take all that previously stated stuff and multiply by 10. That should do it.”

Fat Orange Cat I Don’t Know Where But She Sends Me There

9% ABV

She’s giving me excitations (excitations) Ah, ah, my, what elation. I don’t know where but she sends me there. Oh, my, my, what a sensation. …

The Beach Boys “Good Vibrations” inspired this juicy New England-style double IPA brewed with Citra, Amarillo, and Galaxy hops with orange and grapefruit citrus flavors, some candied peach notes, and a slight floral note on finish.
