Pride is the civil rights movement of our generation. Fifty-five years ago, this summer, New York City bar patrons of many genders, sexualities, and racial identities trapped a group of police officers inside the Stonewall Inn after they shut down the bar in yet another routine raid. Riots continued the following two nights as the LGBTQ community spread word that something unique was happening in Greenwich Village. But whatever happened that night lit a spark that lasted for several days and propelled America’s gay rights — the Gay Liberation Movement – forward. Every June, Pride Month, we celebrate their uprising with Pride parades, rallies, parties, dances, art, and a Proctor neighborhood Pride kiosk at the end of the Mason path at 27th and Mason Street. Launched last year, Proctor Pride 2024 has bigger goals with more neighborhood Pride support, more rainbows, and a commitment to support The Trevor Project, a leading suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) young people. Today, Peaks and Pints highlights breweries that brewed beers in the name of Pride and rainbows via an in-house Pride IPA flight we call Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Proctor Pride IPAs.
Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Proctor Pride IPAs
Buoy Pride IPA
6% ABV
Brewed to support the LGBTQIA2S+ community, this Buoy Beer West Coast-style IPA elevates flavors of gentle sweetness and moderately bitter flavors with aromas of tropical fruits followed by some stone fruit, white peach, and orange zest. Sales from Pride IPA benefits Basic Rights Oregon, an organization that works for the LGBTQ2SIA+ community to live free from discrimination and to be treated with dignity and respect in every community
Future Primitive Queer Beer IPA
6% ABV
For the fourth year, Future Primitive Brewing has brewed Queer Beer IPA in support of White Center Pride and to foster diversity and inclusion in the White Center neighborhood. It’s a hazy IPA with a bready and grainy malt, and light sweet floral nose, followed by more floral, subtle herbal, orange and tangerine flavors.
Stoup Rainbow Bubbles
6.3% ABV
Stoup Brewing raises a glass of Rainbow Bubbles IPA to equality, compassion, and the incredible gift of loving people for who they are. Their second IPA in their Pride month series, Rainbow Bubbles is brewed with Hallertau Blanc and HBC 630 for aromas of gooseberry, white grape, and tropical fruit with a soft malt bill soft of wheat and pilsner malt. This hazy IPA is moderately dry and extremely crushable. Disclaimer: the bubbles are NOT rainbow colored. That’s impossible, silly.
Postdoc More Love
6.3% ABV
Postdoc Brewing’s More Love is an IPA with notes of Mandarin orange, red berries, and stone fruit. It’s brewed to celebrate Pride Month and to support Pride Foundation, which strives for a better, safer, and more equitable world for LGBTQ+ people and their families in the Northwest.
Cloudburst Soft Squeeze IPA
6.6% ABV
“HOW THE FUCK IS IT ALREADY JUNE?! WE DON’T KNOW BUT WE’RE STOKED ABOUT IT! screams Cloudburst Brewing. “One of the best things about June is PRIDE, and with that, comes a beer to help raise funds for the Seattle LGBTQIA+ community. This year, we teamed up with Seattle artist Lane Bestold for the label (Lane’s medium is quilts) and he wanted us to team up with the Lavender Rights Foundation again to be our beery beneficiary. LRF is a Seattle based organization that offers financial, legal and social services to the black and indigenous intersex and gender diverse community. What’s the Soft Squeeze name about? Well, there’s a splash of white wheat in there to match the softness of Lane’s work, and a juicy, tropical hop bill of Azacca, Mosaic, & Citra. And while “squeeze” has lots of positive connotations (Yummy juice! A fantastic hug!) there is some duality there – as conservatives are putting the squeeze on trans rights across the country. There are currently over 500 bills in 40+ states, including our home state of Washington against the community and there is no better time to stand up for human rights. LFG!”
