Collaborations are common in the friendly craft beer world, where like-minded brewers often team up to meld brains over the kettle for a day. In the case of Fort George Brewery’s annual collaboration, 3-Way IPA, the Astoria, Oregon brewery has invited two other “hot” breweries to dial-in a recipe with multiple “Beta” batches over several months since 2013. Well, it’s that time of year again. This year’s guest collaborators — Brujos Brewing of Portland and Ghost Town Brewing of Oakland, California — began this past summer experimenting and test brewing various batches of IPA, all in search of discovering the best one. After countless test batches the final recipe is solidified. According to Fort George, this version of 3-Way IPA will be crisp and be a flavorful culmination of all the knowledge, experience and day-drinking of three of the world’s leading IPA authorities. Even though the 2024 Fort George 3-Way IPA lands at Peaks & Pints today, we will also host the official 3-Way Tacoma launch party Tuesday, May 28, with a Fort George and Brujos tap takeover (Ghost Town doesn’t have official access for Washington state distribution). In celebration of today’s 3-Way drop, Peaks & Pints presents an in-house flight of Fort George and Brujos beer — a flight we’re calling Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Fort George and Brujos.
Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Fort George and Brujos
Fort George Beach Eagle
4.7% ABV
Beach Eagle is a Mexican-style lager named for the glorious Beach Eagle of the North Oregon Coast. Fort George brewed this pale lager to pair specifically with Mexican food on the beach. Pale in color, light in hops, and full of refreshment, this classic lager has a light grainy corn flavor with subtle citrus and floral notes that tastes great with or without a lime wedge tossed in.
Brujos Sunken Luminaries
4.8% ABV
Born in Tijuana, Mexico and raised in Southern California, Sam Zermeño has been brewing professionally since 2016 — two years after he and his brother homebrewed in their driveway. He started as an assistant brewer at Black Market Brewing in Temecula, California, he was the R&D brewer at Great Notion for nearly three years, all during the Pandemic, and brewed for 10 months at Living Haüs Beer before opening Brujos Brewing March 2 in the former Hammer & Stitch Brewing space. Brujos’ Sunken Luminaries is a crisp, clean, decocted, Munich-style helles lager.
Fort George Java the Hop V2 (2024)
6.5% ABV
Fort George brought back its Java the Hop coffee IPA for this year’s May The 4th Be With You celebrations. Together with our friends at Coava Coffee in Portland they hand selected two single-origin, masterfully roasted coffees to pair with two, masterfully grown hop varieties — version V2 features New Zealand 106 hops and Coava Kilenso coffee from Ethiopia for earthy, herbal, dank, and light roast notes.
Fort George 3-Way IPA (2024)
7% ABV
The 2024 3-Way IPA is a glorious golden elixir perfectly calibrated for maximum enjoyment, brought to you by the brewers at Brujos, Ghost Town, and Fort George. Brewed with a malt bill of GW 2-Row, Rahr Pils, and Weyermann Acidulated, then hopped with Simcoe, Mosaic, and Columbus Cryo, this pale gold, zippy and zesty IPA has notes of tangerine and watermelon with bitterness on deck and a vibrant, balanced finish. Fun fact: To celebrate the release of the 2024 edition of 3-Way IPA, Fort George Brewery will once again host its Lupulin Ecstasy Festival in Astoria Saturday, May 25, from noon to 6 p.m. This IPA-centric festival will feature beers from Fort George, Brujos, and Ghost Town along with the previous 3-Way IPA collaborating breweries. This list increases each year and makes for a splendid day in Astoria wander the grounds of the Flavel Mansion and Oregon Film Museum. Lupulin Ecstasy is more than just IPAs as the festival will feature music from Ural Thomas & The Pain, baby goats, llamas in formal wear, food and giant balloon animals.
