The Valley + The Eastside Club Tavern = Fruit Fly for the Stoner Guy

Rhythm & Rye + Boston Harbor Marina = barbecue and bluegrass

STONER ROCK

Every once in a while, you fall into some inexplicable mood, put aside your Heavenly, Pastels, and Cat’s Miaow records, and pull out your battered, pot-scented gatefold copy of Black Sabbath’s Paranoid. The album is a genuine ’70s relic, passed down to you by your brothers, guys who kept interrupting your recent family photo viewing session with exclamations of “Man, we were so stoned that day.” It’s true: The photos show two glazed-over adolescents in braces, tube socks, and tight racing-striped shorts, minds obviously blown by too much weed and too much Sabbath. Meet those guys tonight when The Valley hosts stoner and psych rockers The Sky Giants, Terrasone and KLAW at 9 p.m.

PREFUNK: Sour, funky and wild beers are increasingly popular in the South Sound, and New Belgium Brewing Company will be at The Eastside Club Tavern tonight with sour for the people. The longtime downtown Olympia craft beer tavern will pour New Belgium Fruit Fly Passionfruit Sour Ale, Fruit Fly Citra Sour Ale and many other fruit-based beers from 7-9 p.m.

BLUEGRASS DANCE

Rhythm & Rye hosts two of the best bluegrass bands in the Northwest at 9 p.m. Heavily influenced by America’s roots, folk and bluegrass heritage, Seattle stringband The Warren G. Hardings belong to a generation of young musicians that continues to evolve and adapt these acoustic traditions for the 21st century. The Oly Mountain Boys play bluegrass with high-energy drive and a Pacific Northwest bent, mixing traditional tunes with revolutionary original bluegrass compositions. Bring your dancing boots.

PREFUNK: Laurelwood Brewing Co. is a family-owned brewery and public house in Portland, Oregon, founded in 2001 by Mike De Kalb and Cathy Woo-De Kalb. Laurelwood Brewing Co.’s award-winning line-up includes the popular Workhorse IPA and Free Range Red Ale. Laurelwood’s handcrafted brews can be found at Boston Harbor Marina’s barbecue from 5-8 p.m. Boston Harbor will serve creamy smoked salmon and asparagus pasta, garlic bread, Caesar salad and dessert. Burren Band will provide the tunes.
