MORNING FOAM FOR FRIDAY, NOV. 18 2016: A seven-taster flight of craft beer news, from the fluffy head all the way to the bottom reindeer …

In October, the area’s first Greek distillery opened in a business park in Lakewood. This month, Dystopian State opened in one of Tacoma’s funky old buildings in the St. Helens neighborhood. And there’s one more to add to your list: Peaks and Pints. The taproom is an ode to South Sound and Northwest craft beer built into an old theater in the Proctor neighborhood. News Tribune food and drink journalist Sue Kidd reports says the South Sound craft beverage scene shows no sign of slowing down.

The Brewmaster’s Taproom in Renton is hosting a Beer Church IPA party tonight, donating $1 for every pint of Beer Church IPA it serves. Beer Church IPA, a philanthropic brew to benefit the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, was released last Saturday to rave reviews. Beer Church is the brainchild of Kendall and Kim Jones, the talent behind the Washington Beer Blog. Read more about the beer here.

Our friends at Firestone Walker Brewing Co. are having a contest to find the biggest Firestone Walker fan in the country. Nominate someone you know who loves their beer, take a video, and post it publicly on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or YouTube. The prize? Hit the road for three action-packed days of brewing and blending beer at Firestone Walker’s three coastal California locations — the Propagator pilot brewhouse in Venice, the Barrelworks wild ale facility in Buellton and the main brewery in Paso Robles. It all ends with VIP access to the Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Fest, featuring more than 50 craft breweries from around the nation and world.

Frosty indeed. Ecliptic Brewing Co. just re-released Frosty Leo, which follows the tradition of English Old Ale style beers brewed for the cold months. Big, sweet malts collide with a rich body teaming with Sterling and Citra hop flavors and aromas. This reddish-brown ale reminds us of traipsing through the snow to find some well-lit brewpub in the north. We would drink this beer year round.

A new app called Beat The Brewmaster (free in the iTunes App Store and Google Play) pits your tasting skills against professional brewers: Find the beer you’re drinking; answer questions about flavor, bitterness, aroma and more; then see how your answers match up against the beer’s brewer.

Engineers at the University of California, San Diego have created a wearable electronic patch that can determine your blood alcohol content and send it wirelessly to a phone or laptop. The device, which consists of a temporary tattoo and a small, flexible circuit board, senses sweat to give BAC readings more accurate than a breathalyzer and less invasive than having blood drawn.
