Fremont Brewing Pride Kolsch and Rusty Nail Lodge Meeting

Long-time environmentalist, community organizer and homebrewer Matt Lincecum brought his bank statement to a well-known real estate developer to lease space to his startup craft brewery in the middle of a recession in the “center of the universe” aka Seattle’s funky Fremont neighborhood. Apparently $10,000 and awesome homebrewed beers CAN get you somewhere. In August 2009, Lincecum kegged his first Fremont Brewing craft beer. Today, Fremont is regarded as one of the best craft breweries in Seattle with distribution throughout the state, as well as Oregon and Idaho. In addition to its reputation for consistent quality and innovation, Fremont Brewing is a recognized leader in sustainable brewing operations and community engagement.

Peaks and Pints is thrilled to host Fremont Brewing at our next Lodge Meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 28. First on the Lodge Meeting’s agenda is Fremont’s Pride Kölsch — its German influenced beer brewed with 2-Row Pale malt and White Wheat balanced with Huell Melon and Loral hops resulting in a crisp, refreshing summer taste with hints of melon, berry and orange peel.

“Our goal with Pride Kölsch is to stand up for the safety and self-determination of LGBTQ people and support the work of non-profits serving the LGBTQ community,” stated Matt Lincecum, in a statement. “Ultimately, Pride Kölsch is all about love. A love for beer, a love for each other, and supporting and fighting for the indisputable right to love.”

Speaking of love — Peaks and Pints loves Fremont’s The Rusty Nail imperial stout. We’ll tap the 2017 and 2018 versions during our Lodge Meeting. For the uninitiated, The Rusty Nail begins life as The First Nail, an oatmeal stout with brewer’s licorice, smoked barley and pale malt and aged on cinnamon bark. She becomes The Rusty Nail after spending 15 months in 12-year old bourbon barrels.

Other Fremont craft beers on tap include a 2017 Dark Star Imperial Stout and 2017 Barrel Aged Dark Star Coffee and Head Full of Dynomite v4, among others.
