Photos: Parkway Tavern 81st Birthday Bash
Date: July 30, 2016
Event Information
Eighty-one years. That’s not a bar—that’s a cathedral. In a town that’s seen more wrecking balls than ribbon cuttings, The Parkway Tavern remains a defiant relic of Tacoma’s drink-soaked soul, a North Slope sanctuary that’s evolved from humble corner market to beloved craft beer mecca without ever losing its scarred, wood-paneled heart. On Saturday, July 30, 2016, the Parkway turned 81—not with cake and candles, but with a tap list to make monks weep, a parking lot full of believers, and the raw, bluesy thunder of Forest Beutel & Luke Sumerfield and the Nalley Valley Allstars, who turned amps and grit into pure communion.
We snapped a few hazy, joy-sweat-kissed photos from the celebration, though the best moments—like all great Parkway nights—were likely left off-camera, lingering in the clink of pint glasses and the sweet sting of IPA on a sunburnt tongue.
Happy birthday, Parkway. You beautiful, stubborn, beer-loving time machine. Don’t ever change.
