Two things are as inevitable at Olympia Brew Fest as sunburns on pale PNW shoulders: dancing and hula-hooping—and not the ironic, half-hearted kind, but the joyous, untethered, slightly buzzed variety that turns a downtown marina into a bacchanalian playground. This past Saturday, the Port Plaza once again bloomed into a kaleidoscope of craft beer joy for the fifth annual Olympia Brew Fest, where 30-plus breweries and cideries assembled in hoppy communion under the watchful gaze of Mount Rainier and a sea of reusable cups.

South Sound showed up hard—Pacific Brewing, Top Rung, Fish, Three Magnets, Narrows, O-Town, Dick’s, Puyallup Brewing, Wet Coast, Triceratops, Whitewood Cider, and others brought their liquid A-game, pouring golden, hazy, funky, dark, tart and downright oddball magic to a crowd that said yes to all of it.

Up on the tower, revelers ascended like pilgrimage climbers, greeted not by enlightenment but by a panoramic view of marina madness: T-shirts launched like parade confetti, hoopers twirling like joyful dervishes, impromptu dance circles, beer pong battles with dubstep backing tracks, and a salmon barbecue that smelled like coastal salvation. It wasn’t just a festival—it was a sun-drenched, barley-laced, hop-forward state of mind.
