CREATIVE COLLOQUY CRAWL

Tacoma will be saturated with verse tonight. The Creative Colloquy Crawl will pepper our metropolis with stories big and small, and some promise to be pretty damn colorful, with a delicious craft beer nearby. The literary pub crawl makes perfect sense — prose and booze have long been lovers. Writers such as Truman Capote and Jack Kerouac would agree if they hadn’t died from — among other things — cirrhosis. The Crawl launches at 6 p.m. at with storytellers and such at Sanford and Son, Zodiac Supper Club, Doyle’s Public House, King’s Books and B Sharp Coffee House. At 7 p.m., The Harmon Taproom, B Sharp, Odd Otter Brewing Co. and Destiny City Comics corral the wordsmiths. At 8 p.m., Doyle’s, King’s Books, Zodiac Supper Club, Harmon Taproom and Tacoma Cabana host the final round of Creative Colloquy folks. For full details on storytellers, music and art held at each venue, visit facebook.com/CreativeColloquy.

PREFUNK: Elysian Brewing is the pumpkin king of the Northwest, brewing 13 different pumpkin beers and hosting its 12th massive pumpkin brew festival — that draws entrants from as far away as Europe — Saturday, Oct. 8. The Seattle brewery takes its Great Pumpkin Beer Festival on the road, throwing pumpkin parties with super limited pumpkin beers on tap. The Parkway Tavern will host the Tacoma version of the Elysian Great Pumpkin Road Show at 6 p.m.

FALL POETRY SERIES

Speaking of poetry, Gig Harbor Piece County Library offers a poetry series this fall to highlight the work of local poets, including Dale Goodvin at 7 p.m. The writer and photographer has published in many regional publications, including his recent book of poems and photos called, “Kansas Whispers and Midnight Blues: Dodging Despair, Deception, and Clowns.” For those keeping track, Goodvin lives in a small cabin on Filucy Bay on the Key Peninsula.

PREFUNK: Speaking of pumpkin beers, Wet Coast Brewing Co. has released its seasonal Pie-Eyed Pumpkin Ale with a grain bill full of Crystal malts and packed with over 11 pounds of pumpkin per barrel. The Gig Harbor brewery then adds spices to create an ale worthy of the season. Wet Coast opens at 3 p.m.

SNOWDEN

Director Oliver Stone, with his history of cinematic button-pushing, conspiracy-sharing and assorted anti-hero mythmaking, seems like a good fit for the story of why and how one civilian took extra-legal steps to expose the government’s extra-legal surveillance program. Snowden stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as National Security Administration contractor and subsequent leaker/whistleblower Edward Snowden who exposed shocking illegal surveillance activities by the NSA and became one of the most wanted men in the world. Catch the film at 9:10 p.m. in The Grand Cinema.

PREFUNK: Puget Sound Pizza hosts Ballast Point Brewing & Spirits from 8-10 p.m., pouring Mango Even Keel Session Ale, Commodore American Stout, Sculpin IPA and Pumpkin Down Scottish Ale during the downtown Tacoma pizza joint’s karaoke night.
