THURSDAY, FEB. 2 2017: Tacoma events paired with craft beer …

B Sharp Coffee House + Peaks and Pints = Oscar and Oskar

G. Donnalson’s + Silver City Brewery = romantic

THE GREAT EIGHT

The Keith Henson Octet will perform an extensive repertoire of jazz and American songbook standards at 8 p.m. in B Sharp Coffee House in downtown Tacoma. Led by Henson, expect five-horn arrangements from composers Shorty Rogers, Harry Warren, Mingus, Coltrane and others.

PREFUNK: Why look, here comes one of Western Pennsylvania’s more charming anachronisms. It’s Groundhog Day! The blameless Punxsutawnian mammal popped its head out of the ground to see what all those reporters are doing, and the national network morning shows filled two whole segments without breaking a sweat. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, which means we will have six more weeks of winter and not $3.50 pints of Oskar Blues craft beers tonight. The good news is the Colorado brewery will be at Peaks and Pints tonight pouring Dale’s Pale Ale, Oskar Blues IPA, Mama’s Little Yella Pils, Old Chub Nitro Scotch Ale, G’Knight Imperial Red IPA and Deviant Dale’s Imperial IPA over and over and over. BONUS: Drinking for Conservation will also be in our Proctor District lodge bringing awareness to the caribou. For every Oskar Blues pint sold, Peaks and Pints will donate 50 cents to make caribou life a little better.

BLUES GUITAR

John “Gray Hound” Maxwell is a fingerstyle/bottleneck acoustic blues guitarist and singer who plays clean and accurately with a sense of sweet melody. He’ll set up a stool in the front corner of G. Donnalson’s for a two-and-a-half-hour set beginning at 7 p.m.

PREFUNK: A now-annual tradition at Silver City Brewery, the Bremerton brewery’s Valentine’s Series of beers incorporate a host of devilishly delectable flavors, encapsulated within some of the rarest, most limited ales produced by the brewery. Three of the beers are deep, rich porters and stouts have been aged in bourbon barrels, and the fourth is a delightfully refreshing saison supplemented by whimsically romantic flavors. Each of the beers will be available individually or as part of a special in Silver City’s taproom today, beginning at noon. Coinciding with the bottle release, between 2-4 p.m., ChocMo owner Peter Crabtree will conduct a special sampling of these truffles along with each of the limited release beers.
