Peaks & Pints Monday Cider Flight: Pineapple

Share

Did you know the word “pineapple” was once used to describe pinecones? Back in 1398, that’s precisely what it meant—until European explorers encountered a tropical fruit that reminded them of the spiky cones. By 1664, the fruit had officially claimed the name, and “pinecone” was coined in 1694 to clear up the confusion. Historians trace the pineapple’s roots to Brazil, and Christopher Columbus and his crew were likely among the first Europeans to taste it. The fruit quickly captured the hearts (and palates) of European royals, eventually becoming a coveted delicacy and a symbol of hospitality—only the most gracious hosts would offer a pineapple. In the 20th century, James Dole helped transform the pineapple from a luxury to a lunchbox staple with his Hawaiian plantations and canned fruit empire. Today, Peaks & Pints honors this golden gem with our latest in-house cider flight: Peaks & Pints Monday Cider Flight: Pineapple—a tropical toast to centuries of sweetness.

Yonder Coulee

6.9% ABV

When the scents and colors of Mexico become pure flavor, it means you’re drinking Agua Fresca from Oaxaca. This popular Mexican drink can be made with a variety of ingredients, including fresh fruit, pineapple, horchata, and chili liqueur, all mixed with mezcal. Inspired by the mezcal cocktails of Oaxaca, Yonder Cider’s Coulee is infused with pineapple, lime, and a hint of cardamom, offering notes of juicy tropical fruit and bright citrus, with hints of coconut, subtle spice, and a light tannin finish. Beach and tiny umbrella not included.

Fierce County Patio Heater

7.2% ABV

John and Tolena Thorburn are passionate about craft beer. For 15 years, they traveled the world drinking it. But an oversaturated market led them to cider. Learning and enjoying the varying styles and flavors unique to each brewer and set of ingredients, the Thorburns applied that experience to years of homebrewing and cidermaking. In 2017, Fierce County Cider launched its first commercial operating space in a 97-square-foot ciderhouse in Puyallup. They have since opened a taproom on South Hill. Their Patio Heater offers a little habanero heat and a pineapple kiss.

Newtopia Venom

8% ABV

Newtopia Cyder’s Venom is an imperial hard cider crafted in collaboration with U-God of the Wu-Tang Clan, inspired by the bold energy of the “Year of the Snake.” This cider delivers a fruit-forward blend of blackberry and pineapple, complemented by smooth notes of mango and vanilla. It finishes dry with champagne-like carbonation and a clean, lingering mouthfeel.
