Peaks & Pints Great Notion Beer Flight

Share

Great Notion is the brewery that looked at Portland’s damp evergreen skyline and thought, nah, let’s repaint it in neon fruit. Founded in 2016 by three homebrewing dads with more hop ambition than sense, Great Notion became an instant cult—transforming hazy IPAs into technicolor visions and sours into juice boxes for grown-ups who never wanted to retire their crayons. Their cans, wrapped in cartoon-surreal artwork, aren’t just labels but portals: invitations to step into something mischievous and slightly unruly.

They don’t brew so much as remix—layering hops like DJs dropping reckless beats, stacking fruit until it feels like a farmers’ market mutiny, then barrel-aging stouts until they taste like your subconscious raided the dessert buffet. In less than a decade they’ve expanded across the Pacific Northwest (and down into California), turning taprooms into playgrounds of liquid imagination. The promise is always the same: come thirsty, leave altered.

Today’s Peaks & Pints Great Notion Flight is that promise poured into five acts, each glass another verse in the brewery’s ongoing anthem to haze, fruit, and wild invention. Sip carefully: Portland’s liquid id doesn’t play background music.

Peaks & Pints Great Notion Beer Flight

Great Notion Mellifluous #5

6.3% ABV | Fruited Sour

When the blender gods get restless, they conjure Mellifluous #5: pineapple, guava, passionfruit, orange, apricot, apple, and papaya tumbling into your glass like a tropical landslide. It’s tart and lush, a punchbowl gone rogue, sharp enough to snap you awake, soft enough to seduce. A kaleidoscope in liquid form — equal parts sorbet, acidity, and grin.

Great Notion × Vice Beer I Love It When a Van Comes Together

7% ABV | Hazy IPA

Brewed with Vancouver’s Vice Beer, this collab is a joyride with no seatbelts: Citra, Nelson Sauvin, and Krush Cryo throwing off waves of papaya, guava, and citrus like a psychedelic caravan barreling toward the horizon. It’s hop sermon meets road-trip fever, the haze so thick you could carve your initials in it.

Great Notion × Grains of Wrath – Idle Hands

6.6% ABV | American IPA

Idle Hands, made with Camas, Washington’s Grains of Wrath, doesn’t lounge—it plots. Citra Dynaboost, Nectaron, Superdelic, and Krush conjure mango and guava that spar playfully with grapefruit bitterness and a lurking pine snap. Clean, dangerously drinkable, a little too smooth for its own good — the sort of IPA that convinces you “one more” is never enough.

Great Notion × Human People Tiny Little Scissors

6.8% ABV | West Coast IPA

Brewed with Seattle’s Human People, this IPA is hop surgery under neon light: Mosaic, Mosaic Lupomax, and Riwaka sharpened with actual Riwaka kief. Expect tropical bursts of apricot and pineapple, cut clean by pine resin and citrus bite. It’s precise, buzzing, almost electric — the kind of IPA that trims away the noise and leaves you humming.

Great Notion Super Duper Ripe

10% ABV | Triple Hazy IPA

The Ripe lineage turned maximalist. A triple-hazy dripping with Citra and Citra Lupomax, it pours like liquefied sunrise, thick with mango, pineapple, and grapefruit pith, grounded by just enough pine to remind you this is still beer. It’s bold, decadent, a lush dare to your senses — that sweet, delirious blur where Great Notion does its best work.
