Peaks & Pints 2025 Tournament of Beer: Northwest IPAs: Final Four

The Pacific Northwest loves Northwest-style IPAs — at least according to the thousands who voted in our Tournament of Beer: Northwest IPAs. Yesterday’s IPA voting action doubled the previous highest vote count for a single day. And the top seeds in every match won.

What four hop-slinging breweries will move on to the Final Four?

The barrel roll, please …

Remember that every Northwest-style IPA that made it into the tourney is worth a sip. Still, there must be winners. We started with 64 Northwest-style IPAs brewed in Oregon and Washington. Now, these four boss IPAs face off for the ultimate glory — IBU to IBU battles to determine the best Northwest-style IPA in the region. Which IPA has the moxie to nail down the championship? Whose IPA will win it all?

Today’s Final Four matchups are:

GAME 1: Georgetown Brewing Lucille IPA vs. E9 Brewing Realize Real Lies IPA

GAME 2: Fort George Brewery Vortex IPA vs. Boneyard Beer RPM IPA

All right! Let’s dive into the Final Four. Please vote for one IPA per game on Peaks & Pints’ Instagram Stories. Voting for today’s battles ends at midnight. We’ll announce the winners tomorrow morning around 9 a.m., but today’s games are live on Peaks & Pints’ Instagram Stories. Take a deep whiff and get to voting. …

Friday, April 25, Final Four Northwest IPAs Games

GAME 1, WASHINGTON REGION

Georgetown Brewing Lucille IPA (#1 seed) vs. E9 Brewing Realize Real Lies (#2 seed)

The Lucille IPA from Georgetown Brewing got its name because the original idea was to name it “The Georgetown Hoe” after a brewing tool that resembles a garden hoe. However, the brewers ran into resistance and ultimately decided on Lucille, inspired by actor Joy Harmon’s character washing the car and putting on a show for the chain gang as they worked along the roadside in the movie Cool Hand Luke. Lucille, the beer, is hoppy, floral, balanced, and has a lingering but palatable bitterness. The name “Realize Real Lies” for E9 Brewing’s IPA is a play on the phrase “real eyes realize real lies” that conveys the idea that individuals with insight or discernment, often symbolized as “real eyes,” can recognize or become aware of the deceit or falsehoods (“real lies”) present in certain situations or communication. Interesting, but this isn’t the Tournament of Name Origins, and these two top Northwest-style IPAs have ripped through the Tournament. It’s Seattle versus Tacoma. Vote!

GAME 2, OREGON REGION

Fort George Brewery Vortex IPA (#1 seed) vs. Boneyard Beer RPM IPA (#1 seed)

According to those who seeded this Tournament, this game is supposed to happen. While both breweries have been part of Tournament of Beer history, often in past Final Four games, these two number one seeds have not yet faced each other in a direct competition. Weird. To reach this Final Four game, Vortex IPA went through McMenamins 33rd State, Barley Brown’s Pallet Jack, Double Mountain Hop Lava, and Buoy IPA in Northern Oregon. Boneyard RPM IPA started with Oblivion Backside IPA before knocking off Rogue Pacific Northwest IPA, Silver Moon IPA 97, and Bend Brewing Tropic Pines in Southern Oregon to reach this game. So here we go. …
