Peaks & Pints 2025 Tournament of Beer Northwest IPAs April 21
Beginning tomorrow, we’ll cut the field of 64 Oregon and Washington-brewed Northwest IPAs to the Sweet Wort 16. Then, on April 24, it’ll drop to eight. Saturday, April 26, we’ll announce the winner of the Tournament of Beer: Northwest IPAs — picked by you, of course — at our beer bar, bottle shop, and restaurant in Tacoma’s Proctor District. On that Saturday, we’ll cut the online voting at 5 p.m. and take the voting live at 6 p.m. in Peaks & Pints, handing out ballots. At the same time, you pound the two final Northwest IPAs and wait to hear if you won the Tournament of Beer Yeti Cooler plastered with participating brewery stickers and other raffle prizes.
That’s all fine and dandy, but it’s Monday, April 21, and you don’t have time for idle chitchat. You need to vote on the last four games of the Second Round. Please vote for one IPA per game on Peaks & Pints’ Instagram Stories. Voting for today’s battles ends at midnight. We’ll announce the winners tomorrow morning around 9 a.m., but today’s games are live on Peaks & Pints’ Instagram Stories. Take a deep whiff and get to voting. …
Monday, April 21, Second Round Northwest IPAs Games

GAME 1, NORTHERN WASHINGTON REGION
Stoup Brewing Citra IPA (#6 seed) vs. Old Schoolhouse Brewery Allgood IPA (#14 seed)
We have heavyweight Stoup Citra IPA, with its storied history and claims to fame, battling Old Schoolhouse Allgood IPA, the Old Schoolhouse 14th seed that could. Both IPAs are well-loved so that rallying support won’t be an issue. The real question is: Since Allgood IPA is named after former Old Schoolhouse assistant brewer Nick Allgood, who now owns the North Cascades Builders Supply in Winthrop, does Nick’s reach within the building community have an advantage for the Methow Valley brewery or will Stoup Citra IPA tighten up its strong citrusy character and go to work. The votes will decide.

GAME 2, SOUTHERN WASHINGTON REGION
Top Rung Brewing Prying Irons IPA (#12 seed) vs. Odd Otter Brewing Optimus Pine IPA (#13 seed)
Only 262,068-pint glasses end-to-end separate Odd Otter Brewing in downtown Tacoma and Top Rung Brewing in Lacey. It’s safe to say this is not only a battle for the best Northwest-style IPA and the right to advance to the Sweet Wort 16 round, but also Lacey versus Tacoma. Tacoma has Optimus Pine IPA, a teapot-shaped bar, a park named after “Dune”, and 222,906 residents. Lacey has Prying Irons IPA, Shipwreck Beads, an official EPA Green Power Community certificate, and 58,326 residents. Lacey needs this win to add something exciting to its Wikipedia page. Odd Otter thinks that’s odd. Vote now.

GAME 3, NORTHERN OREGON REGION
Buoy Beer IPA (#7 seed) vs. Breakside Brewery India Pale Ale (#2 seed)
These two breweries don’t need a clever name. Buoy Beer didn’t name its Northwest IPA Buoy Goonie IPA. Breakside didn’t name their version, Breakside These Are The Breaks IPA. Nope. “India Pale Ale” works fine, and work is precisely what the two Northern Oregon breweries need to do today. Will the fact that Breakside has a new taproom across the street from Buoy in Astoria be a factor? Buoy had to deal with a collapsed roof several years ago. They don’t even need a buoy when in deep water.

GAME 4, SOUTHERN OREGON REGION
Boneyard Beer RPM IPA (#1 seed) vs. Rogue Ales Pacific Northwest IPA (#9 seed)
Boneyard Beer and Rogue Ales are both well-known Oregon-based breweries with distinct identities. Boneyard is known for its IPAs, particularly the RPM IPA. Rogue Ales, on the other hand, has a broader range of beer styles and a more significant global presence. Boneyard Beer has Deschutes Brewery as its parent company. Rogue has a new pub house in the former Gigamesh Brewing spot in Salem. This could be a fun one. Vote now!
