MOJAY HAZY IPA, Stone Brewing: During this year’s 10th American Homebrewers Association Rally at Stone Brewing fiancés Corey Magers and Elizabeth Bakas went for an East-West hybrid, brewing a hazy hop bomb with more bitterness than a typical New England-style IPA. Stone and San Diego brewery Burgeon Beer joined the duo in brewing their winning IPA for the masses. A hop bill of Amarillo, Citra and Mosaic elicits a fresh-squeezed OJ quality, in a combination of pellet hops and cryo hops for more clean flavors and less roughness (read: Mosaic + OJ = Mojay). 7.6%, 22oz
MOTHER OF DRAGONS, Brewery Ommegang: Daenerys Targaryen’s cute dragons are back as a blend of a smoked porter and a Belgian kriek representing, “the smoke and fire that Daenerys has unleashed on her opponents during her ascent to conquer and rule the seven kingdoms,” according to Brewery Ommegang hype. Is a horny, Reddit obsessed 14-year-boy running Games Of Thrones? Ponder that as you sip this rich brew with tart cherry up front leading to a center palate of semi-sweet chocolate, subtle smoke and mild sweetness. 6.6%, 750ml
No. 4 PINEY IPA, Hale’s Ales: The final installment of Hale’s Leary Way Limited Series, this IPA is brewed with Chinook, Cascade, Centennial and Bravo hops for all the pine, plus grapefruit, with a floral and herbal nose. There’s plenty of malt, adding some sweetness to battle the liquid tree. 7%, 12oz
SON OF BERSERKER, Midnight Sun Brewing: Dubbed a “small” imperial stout, as if this 8 percent ABV, malt-centric beer could be called small, but it is compared to Berserker’s 12.7 percent. This chewy stout pours just as black as its father with flavors of dark fruit and smoke that give way to raisin, vanilla and carob as it warms. It finishes dry with a little char, smoke and Baker’s chocolate. 8%, 22oz
SPACE CHURCH IPA, Airways Brewing: The Kent-based brewery has release a new version of Space Church, this time with Galaxy, Citra and Comet hops. The Comet hops hit with grapefruit, lemon and orange aromas and a wildly bitter punch followed by Galaxy and Citra lending notes of passionfruit, citrus and peach. 6.7%, 16oz
TUNDRA WOOKIE, Midnight Sun Brewing: This Belgian special dark ale was brewed with tart cherries for a deliciously complex bouquet of dark cherries, aged malt, aged vinegar notes and debittered chocolate. Toasted malt and caramel hit the tongue along with deep, sweet, chocolate-marsala-soaked bread and raisins. The alcohol is entirely masked, serving only to enhance the flavor profile. 13%, 22oz
