Peaks and Pints Fort George Beer Flight

Share

In 2009, Fort George Brewery bought almost the entire city block in Astoria, including the Lovell Building, where they installed a 20-barrel commercial brewhouse — “Little Miss Texas” — followed by a neighboring $12.5 million production facility. In March 2021, Fort George shifted its major production to a new waterfront location along the Columbia River just east of the Astoria-Megler Bridge. Inside the new facility, Fort George installed a refurbished three-vessel, 60-barrel “Kingpin” brewhouse that was used for years by Bridgeport Brewing out of Portland, Oregon. They added two new 250-barrel fermenters and four 170-barrel lagering tanks and moved almost every tank from the Lovell Brewery. A state-of-the-art Krones canning line promises up to 260 cans per minute, twice the speed of their previous line. Every weekday at 5 p.m., the very punctual shift whistles from the new warehouse are heard. Today, Peaks & Pints presents another Fort George beer flight, Peaks and Pints Fort George Beer Flight.

Fort George Pass the Balaton

6% ABV

When this mixed culture sour brewed with Wild Cherry Blossom Yeast was nearing completion, Fort George knew they needed to execute the perfect transition. That’s why one summer morning right before sunrise in the R&D Brewery, our head brewer could play soothing folk ballads on a hammered dulcimer while all the brewers lined up across the cellar with handfuls of the finest, fresh Balaton cherries. The brewers eased the cherries into the mixed culture barrels. This, of course, resulted in the smoothest, most melodic transition. And lo! a bright, tart, subtly funky cherry red saison was born.

Fort George Cathedral Tree

6.1% ABV

Take the Richard Fencsak Memorial Cathedral Tree Trailhead on a path that houses a more than 300-year-old Sitka spruce leading up to the Astoria Column in Astoria, Oregon. You will come across the Cathedral Tree, a sentinel of Astoria’s once plentiful old-growth forests, over 8 feet in diameter with a hollow cathedral space in its trunk. Fort George’s Cathedral Tree reveres a timeless lager style – the pilsner. Fermented entirely in 500-liter oak puncheons, this Old-World pilsner has a mellow tannic structure and soft mouthfeel supported by classic German noble hops.

Fort George Dominik IPA

7% ABV

Mat and Conrad at Living Häus Beer Co. in Portland, Oregon, helped Fort George brewer Michal brew this IPA hopped with every type of Simcoe we could get. It’s named after Michal’s dad, who owned a Krokus flower shop in Chicago. Next, Dominik was dry-hopped by Jen or Ashley. Shane packaged it in cans designed by Will and ordered by Colin. It will be picked by Domingo, loaded by Mike, and delivered by Benji or Sofi. Finally, Matthew will stock it in the Peaks & Pints cooler and pour it today by Peaks bartenders Mitchell, Trish, Erin, and Matthew.

Fort George Fields of Green (Bertha)

7.6% ABV

Fort George’s Fields of Green explores hop perceptions, pushing the limits of your lupulin receptors. This periodic IPA release, always evolving, has landed at Peaks and Pints — on tap and in cans. The latest batch, Codename: Bertha, is an unreasonably opaque, positively fruity Hazy IPA brewed with Simcoe, Citra, and Citra Cryo. It’s well-balanced and complex with a little hint of warming sweetness. Available for a very limited time.

Fort George Electric Surfboard

9% ABV

One of the most challenging things about surfing is finding the right waves to ride. Unfortunately, since nature dictates the waves, surfers don’t have full control over the ability to do this sport unless they use an electric-powered surfboard. This fact may come into play for some surfers when trying to practice or race. Fort George’s version is a double IPA brewed with Apollo, Ekuanot, Mosaic, and Simcoe hops for piney hops, orange, strawberry, pineapple, and a hint of floral hop on the nose followed by flavors of candied orange, sweet berries, stone fruit, ripe melon, and a malty, sweet finish.
