Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Amarillo Hops

Share

If it were socially acceptable to drink beer in the morning, one with Amarillo hops would be the perfect way to start the day — combined with a balanced breakfast (of course). Amarillo provides a super-citrusy aroma verging on oranges, lively citrus flavor, and a medium-high bitterness, that is sure to wake the taste buds. The hop may seem as though they might be grown in the foothills of the Spanish Pyrennes but in fact come from Washington’s Virgil Gamache Farms. And while most strains can be propagated independently through the purchase of rhizomes, Amarillo is not one that you will be growing in your backyard (unless your backyard is Virgil G. Farms). Wake up to Amarillo hops and our in-house flight, Peaks and Pints Beer Flight: Amarillo Hops.

Structures Junior Amarillo and Simcoe

4.5% ABV

Long before contemporary sluggers thrilled us with their prodigious power during All-Star Home Run Derby competitions, one name towered above the rest in the annals of Derby lore: Ken Griffey Jr. No one has won as many Derby titles as Griffey’s three. The combination of his immaculate swing, his ability to deliver under pressure, his status as the most exciting player in the game and, of course, that backwards cap, made him a Derby legend the likes of which we haven’t seen since. Structures Brewing brewed a beer in Griffey’s honor, “Junior.” The hazy pale ale is brewed with Amarillo and Simcoe for vibrant tangelos and honeydew melon flavor.

Wander 10 Year Reunion IPA

6.6% ABV

A collaboration with their fellow Bellingham brewery Aslan Brewing, who is turning 10 years old with Wander Brewing, this rich tropical West Coast IPA is brewed with Amarillo, Cameros, Centennial, and Cashmere for notes of passionfruit and peachy goodness with just the right amount of bitterness.

Matchless POG

6.8% ABV

Matchless Brewing’s POG Hazy IPA brings all the fruit flavor you’d expect in a POG juice … straight from the hop cones. A fluffy bed of flaked oats and wheat lay the backdrop for the tropical, overripe juicy goodness of Nelson Sauvin and Azacca hops and the citrusy kick of Amarillo. Reminiscences of the classic tropical juice blend, look for big notes of passionfruit, orange and guava along with a touch of peach in this full-bodied tropical hazy IPA.

Old Stove Whereas

7% ABV

Seattle Beer Week and Old Stove Brewing joined forces to create Whereas, the official beer of Seattle Beer Week 15. This delicious West Coast IPA is loaded with Citra, Mosaic, and Amarillo hops exuding floral citrus notes tangerine, orange, and mango over a clean and refreshing malt bill.

Hop Butcher For The World Loophole Technicality

7.5% ABV

A lyrically tight delivery of continued mind and body satisfying dankness courtesy of the ripping combo of hand selected Amarillo, Strata, and Galaxy Hop Butcher For The World’s Loophole Technicality hazy double IPA has notes of juicy pineapple, bitter citrus and a creamy smoothness.
