Peaks & Pints Sunday Jambic & Lazz July 6
Peaks & Pints wants you to have a musty, horse-blanketed, spontaneously fermented good time this Sunday night—and who are you to say no to wild yeast and saxophone ecstasy? Yes, we’re pairing jazz with lambics again, because life is short and needs more tang. It’s Jambic & Lazz, our monthly communion of Belgian beer funk and Kareem Kandi’s molten jazz trio, swirling together in our Events Room like microbes in a French oak barrel—5 to 8 p.m., every first Sunday, forever if we’re lucky.
This is not just beer. This is terroir turned scripture. This is the Senne River Valley preaching through airborne bacteria, barrel staves, and those blessed, tart little Schaerbeek cherries. Lambic isn’t a style; it’s a sacred accident, a wild ferment miracle only possible in a postage stamp of Pajottenland near Brussels, protected like a sacred relic and legally guarded like bourbon or Champagne. Each bottle is a living, evolving, deeply personal argument with nature—and nature, in this case, brought funk and fruit and hayloft seduction. Gueuze, kriek, faro—these beers don’t follow trends. They outlast them.
Then there’s Kareem. The coolest cat in Tacoma, a saxophonist whose tone could caramelize steel, recently back from blowing his horn across France. He’s got chops, he’s got grace, he’s got the ghost of Dexter Gordon perched on his shoulder whispering “just one more chorus.” His trio doesn’t play songs so much as conduct séances with the jazz gods, conjuring riffs that twist around your lambic like a Miles Davis solo in a dusty cellar bar at the end of the world.
Come sip the weird. Come taste time. Come listen. Come ferment.
JAMBIC & LAZZ with Kareem Kandi Jazz Trio and lambics, 5-8 p.m. Sunday, June 6, Peaks & Pints, 3816 N. 26th St., Basecamp Proctor, Tacoma, no cover
