It’s made from one of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren, so it drinks like its famous Trappist cousin. It’s a balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. This beer excels because of its long bittersweet finish and hoppy bite. Christmas Ale is the brewery’s Abt 12 offering gussied up with rich malt, dark dried fruit, fig, hints of anise, nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar.
