BLACK FRIDAY, NOV. 25 2016: South Sound events + craft beer …
Lakewood Playhouse + Peaks and Pints = a Wonderful day and night
G. Donnalson’s + Odd Otter Brewing Co. = good for the Soul
OK, IT’S WONDERFUL
Lakewood Playhouse is getting all nostalgic on us with a touching version of a holiday classic. It’s a Wonderful Life follows George Bailey, the Everyman from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose dreams of escape and adventure have been quashed by family obligation and civic duty, whose guardian angel has to descent on Christmas Eve to save him from despair by showing him what the world would have been like had he never been born. George rescues his kid brother at 8 p.m.
PREFUNK: Maybe you’ll be done buying discount TVs before 6 a.m. or maybe you’ve just got better things to do Friday than join the masses at the mall. Whatever the case, Peaks and Pints has special beer tappings and bottles in honor of the retail world’s big day. And while beer geeks will be hitting our Western red cedar tap tree and large cooler for the annual release of Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout, there are a few other treasures we’ll have in the lodge beginning at 11 a.m. So let go of the Walmart coupons and shine a little light on Black Friday by enjoying Deschutes Brewery’s 2015 The Abyss, The Bruery’s Share This: Coffee Imperial Stout, Omnipollo’s Symzonia Imperial Stout, 7 Seas’ Imperial Chili Pepper Stout, De Proef/Hair of the Dog’s Flanders Fred and many other draft delights. We’ll have the Apple Cup on the 130-inch screen, too. Game starts at 12:30 p.m. Wear your team colors!
Tacoma jazz and soul guitarist Ed Taylor has Gibson Guitars in his camp, an honor that allows him to play what he feels are the best guitars in the world. His Gibson of choice: the Steve Howe ES-175, which he works masterfully. Guitarist/vocalist Taylor will unleash his smooth riffs, silver-tongued vocals and ultra cool compositions at 7:30 p.m. in G. Donnalson’s.
PREFUNK: Downtown Tacoma brewery Odd Otter Brewing Co. will host its second anniversary celebration beginning at 2 p.m. Special edition 2-liter growlers (only 100 available at $75 each) will be released. A keg of Kentucky River Otter will be tapped, as will Blind Otter. Musician Kim Archer will perform from 9-11 p.m.
