Share

TUESDAY, MARCH 7 2017: Tacoma events + craft beer …

The Grand Cinema + Peaks and Pints = Lampedusa and lupulin

The Swiss Restaurant and Pub + The Copper Door = Name That Tune and Beer Flight

LANDING

The Grand Cinema’s Tuesday Film Series finds Fire at Sea about the European immigration crisis focuses on the Sicilian island of Lampedusa, where thousands of people arrive each year from Africa and the Middle East en route to the continent. Director Gianfranco Rosi divides his narrative between a 12-year-old boy who lives on the island, enjoying a bucolic childhood of slingshots and firecrackers, and the rescue teams that risk life and limb to save imperiled boats at sea. Check it out at 1:15, 3:30 and 6:50 p.m.

PREFUNK: Do the early-workweek doldrums have you down? Feel like telling the weather to shut up? Sounds like you need a triple IPA or three. Peaks and Pints has squirreled away three triple IPAs from our Paul Bunyan Big IPA festival last month: Pike Brewing Hopulus Erectus, Knee Deep Simtra and Kulshan Excelsior Peak. Sounds like the perfect Tuesday night out. Who really cares if you have poli sci at 8 a.m.?

GEEKS WHO DRINK

Is your head just crammed with useless information? Like music trivia? Got an affinity for beer and bar food? Well, bunkie, you just hit the trifecta, because The Swiss Restaurant and Pub is the site of John Dicker’s Geeks Who Drink pub quiz night. Dicker, a genius from Colorado, has taken the Irish Pub quiz tradition to a new level with Geeks Who Drink games across the nation, including at 8 p.m. in the popular downtown Tacoma restaurant and bar. The quizzes cover everything from celebrities in trouble to wordplay to bad television. Each quiz has two audio rounds: a “Name that Tune” style round, and another round comprised of sound bites from movies and TV. Finally, your disturbingly thorough knowledge of ‘70s prog rock drum solos will pay off.

PREFUNK: Here’s what we know about Marc Montes. He’s from Los Fresnos, Texas. He enjoys animals. Dorothy is his favorite Golden Girl. He’s a music fan. His go-to Halloween costume is Cat in the Hat. He pours beer at 7 Seas Brewing Co. and The Copper Door. He’s a really nice, cool guy. And, he has great taste in craft beer. The Copper Door honors Montes’ birthday by letting him pick the Stadium District bottle shop and taproom’s Tasting Tuesday beer flight. Dole out the hugs between sips of Wander Brewing Plum Millie, Fremont Brewing Lush IPA, Founders Brewing Breakfast Stout and Epic Brewing Son of a Baptist: Coffee Stout, beginning at 6 p.m.
