TACOMA PREFUNK FRIDAY, MARCH 30 2018: Founders KBS and Cloud Person

PREFUNK: In 2002, Founders Brewing Co. wanted to age their Breakfast Stout in bourbon barrels. A call to Jack Daniels with a request to use their barrels was accepted as long as they picked them up. The first run was a success. Something magical happened in the barrel. The recipe needed refinement since the bourbon notes were overwhelming in the beer. The solution was to create an imperial (higher alcohol content) version of Breakfast Stout. The result is Kentucky Breakfast Stout, or KBS. Founders KBS pours from Peaks and Pints’ Western red cedar tap log today. It’s kind of a big deal.

7:30 P.M. FILM FOCUS: BEHIND THE CURTAIN TODRICK HALL: Once upon a time, a murderous farm girl named Dorothy dreamed she’d been taken by a storm from her Kansas home to the land of Oz surrounded by imaginary friends. Todrick Hall recounts a similar journey, traveled between Texas and the bright lights of Broadway. It takes the form of a 20-song performance called Straight Outta Oz. Tonight, you can watch Hall struggle to write songs about growing up gay and black in small-town Texas, his difficult relationship with his mom, and the harsh realities of trying to make it in show business via a documentary screening at Broadway Center’s Theatre on the Square. You might know Hall as the former American Idol contestant with a penchant for making musical YouTube videos with titles like “Beauty and the Beat” and “Twerkin’ in the Rain.”

9 P.M. CLOUD PERSON: Cloud Person is a six-piece rock band from Seattle that blends psychedelic, garage, folk and indie sensibilities into a unique brand of their own. They headline a show with Sporty lee and Moon Dial at The Valley tonight.
