SUMMARY:Tacoma Beer Week: Thurston County Craft Bounty
DESCRIPTION:“It’s the water.” \nNo matter if you’re a beer drinker or not\, you’re likely familiar with the famed Olympia Beer motto of yesteryear. Whether describing the easy-to-drink suds that helped make the town famous\, the Bud Inlet that helps give it character and beauty\, the artesian wells that pump vitality into downtown\, or simply the constant drizzle\, there’s a reason “It’s the water\,” has outlived production of the iconic beer it was coined to sell. \nAfter all these years\, it’s still the water. And Thurston County’s beer roots run as deep as its famous artesian wells. In 1896 successful Montana brewer Leopold Schmidt opened the Capital Brewery after discovering the famous artesian water was ideal for brewing beer. Originally housed in a stackhouse in Tumwater\, and eventually renamed Olympia Brewery\, it was a significant player in the region’s sudsy brew movement. The brewery slogged through Prohibition during the early 20th century and ownership changes 50 years later. The brewery closed in 2003 when its parent company shuttered the Tumwater plant and moved the production operation to Irwindale\, California. In 1993\, Crayne and Mary Horton led a dozen Thurston County investors in opening Fish Brewing Company\, South Sound’s first craft brewery. It wasn’t until 15 years or so later that several Thurston County craft breweries followed Fish’s lead. \nPeaks and Pints will salute the craft breweries and cidery of Thurston County during the 2017 Tacoma Beer Week. Wednesday\, Aug. 9 we welcome Fish Brewing\, Three Magnets Brewing\, Top Rung Brewing\, Matchless Brewing\, Triceratops Brewing\, O-Town Brewing and Whitewood Cider. The brewers and staff from the breweries will be in the house with two kegs each. \nIt might be all about the water\, but these folks know how to use it. \nTACOMA BEER WEEK: THURSTON COUNTY CRAFT BOUNTY\, 6 p.m. Wednesday\, Aug. 9\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover

SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints SudsPop: Top Rung Brewing and Luke Stanton
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints SudsPop: Top Rung Brewing and Luke Stanton \nYou know what would go great with your beer? (Other than another beer.) Some music. That’s according to researchers in Brussels who found you can enhance the flavor perception of your favorite brew by listening to the right jams. You’re constantly surrounded by sensory stimuli\, like sound\, sensation\, scent\, and color — all of which influence your taste. You wouldn’t think music would have such an impact on taste; but science proves otherwise. \nSo will Top Rung Brewing and singer/songwriter Luke Stanton. \nHot off our successful first outing with 7 Seas Brewing and singer/songwriter Kristen Marlo\, Peaks and Pints presents our second SudsPop VIP Night Wednesday\, July 18. Each SudsPop event features a brewer\, an exclusive one-off beer brewed by the special guest brewer and a chosen artist or band in our East Wing events room. On the third Wednesday of July Top Rung brewer Tyler Mathis will discuss and pour his Reading the Smoke Gratzer Beer\, as well as discuss the Lacey brewery’s history and other craft beer topics. Throughout the two-hour event\, Gig Harbor native Stanton will perform his special honest style of music with compelling acoustics and rich lyricism. \n“Gratzer beer is a historic ale is a classic example of early craft brewing\,” explains Mathis. “From the region of modern-day Poland comes a moderately smoked yet crisp wheat ale\, the Piwo Grodziskie\, or better known as gratzer. Our gratzer has a prominent\, but not overbearing\, oak-smoke aroma accompanied with light floral and citrus notes from Sterling hops. A light mouthfeel and intense carbonation will prickle the tongue and finish dry in a most refreshing way that’ll make you want more. Weighing in at 3.4 percent\, this is the summer crusher you never knew could exist at your backyard barbecues.” \nLuke performs indie/folk/rock covers and originals with influences from Dave Matthews Band\, Glen Hansard\, John Mayer and Mumford & Sons. \nPlease join us 7-9 p.m. Wednesday\, July 18 in the Peaks and Pints East Wing for an incredible night of music and song. \nTickets are $14 plus tax\, which includes the special event beer\, nibbles from Peaks and Pints kitchen and\, of course\, all the beer education and music. There’s a limit of 20 people. Tickets are available at Peaks and Pints. \nPEAKS AND PINTS SUDSPOP: TOP RUNG BREWING AND LUKE STANTON\, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday\, July 18\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, $14 presold

SUMMARY:Sierra Nevada Resilience Camp Fire Benefit
DESCRIPTION:Sierra Nevada Resilience Camp Fire Benefit\nWhen the Camp Fire started in the hills above Sierra Nevada Brewing‘s Chico brewery Nov. 8\, 2018\, it soon became the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California history. The fire burned more than 153\,000 acres\, killed at least 85 people\, and destroyed more than 18\,000 buildings. \nIn its wake\, Sierra Nevada put out the call for aid to every craft brewery in America\, asking them to take part by brewing batches of Resilience Butte County Proud IPA\, getting their suppliers to donate malt\, yeast and hops to 1\,400 volunteer breweries across the country who have agreed to pitch time and staff hours. All sales proceeds will go to Sierra Nevada’s Camp Fire Relief Fund\, which the brewery has set up to help fund long-term rebuilding and support efforts in Butte County\, where the fire took place. \nPeaks and Pints wants to do our part by partnering with Sierra Nevada and donating all proceeds from Resilience Butte County Proud IPA draft sales to Camp Fire relief Thursday\, Jan. 10. We’re tapping our keg of Resilience this Thursday! We’ll also be accepting monetary donations that evening and will send 100 percent of those donations to the fund. In addition to other Sierra Nevada craft beer\, we’ll tap the Resilience IPA from two local breweries owned by firefighter: Top Rung Brewing and Wet Coast Brewing. \nCome grab a pint or three and support an amazing cause! \nSIERRA NEVADA RESILIENCE CAMP FIRE BENEFIT\, 6 p.m. Thursday\, Jan. 10\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N.26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, donations accepted

SUMMARY:Peaks and Pints: South Sound Beer and Cider Week
DESCRIPTION:Peaks and Pints: South Sound Beer and Cider Week\nThurston County’s beer roots run as deep as its famous artesian wells. It wasn’t until 15 years or so later that Top Rung Brewery and several Thurston County craft breweries followed Fish’s lead. In celebration of the inaugural South Sound Beer & Cider Week (Aug. 16-25)\, Peaks and Pints hosts elder Top Rung Brewing and younger Well 80 Brewhouse and Headless Mumby Brewing at 6 p.m. Thursday\, Aug. 22 for a night of craft beer perfect for a summer night. \nHEADLESS MUMBY BREWING: In November 2018\, Alex Maffeo and Keith Ciani opened Headless Mumby brewery and taproom in west Olympia\, specializing in lagers. Headless is a salute to the song “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner” by Warren Zevon. Ciani is a rabid fan. Mumby is a reference to a defunct logging and shingle mill from the early 1900s which operated in the area where Maffeo now lives. This past June\, Headless Mumby grabbed gold for its Smoked Rye Lager and Very Small Brewery of the Year at the 2019 Washington Beer Awards. \nTOP RUNG BREWING: The Lacey brewery opened in April 2014 with awarding-winning homebrew recipes and two owners with full-time jobs. Today\, Thurston County firefighters Casey Sobol and Jason Stoltz have put Lacey on the craft beer map with solid craft beers back with solid business sense. Top Rung Brewing has moved higher and higher up the ladder: Its beers can now be found on draft and in bottles throughout Western Washington. \nWELL 80 BREWHOUSE: Downtown Olympia is home to 96 artisan wells\, and Chris Knudson’s business just happens to occupy No. 80. Knudson open Well 80 Brewhouse — a brewery\, bar and all-ages restaurant — in the Spring of 2018. Well 80 head brewer Paul Pearson\, previously of Fish Brewing Co.\, brews beer using well 80 artisan well water. \nHappy South Sound Beer and Cider Week! \nPEAKS AND PINTS: SOUTH SOUND BEER AND CIDER WEEK\, 6-9 p.m. Thursday\, Aug. 22\, Peaks and Pints\, 3816 N. 26th St.\, Basecamp Proctor\, Tacoma\, no cover
